and don't forget about the Lidle throw-in, who was worth more than we got by himself.

yep, we took two from the fishies (7/30/2006)

there was lots of speculation as BKA didn't appear on the first game and i think the trade was announced between games

Ryan Howard hit his 35th home run of the year during the second game.

Looking at Ryan Howard's BR page makes me sad.

i'm optimistic. he's hitting 35+ this season. think he's just about all the way back from the injury. plus, I have no choice but to root for him anyway

I'll always root for him, as long as he's a Phillies. But I sure do miss the guy who hit 58 home runs in 2006.

he came out of the dugout after the end of the 7th or 8th inning in game 1, i remember Geary tipping his cap after warming up on the mound

Trade Abreu, get good. Bring Abreu back, get good. It's the circle of life.

SK790 wrote:this thread just reminded me of the day of the Abreu trade. I was supposed to go to a graduation party for my friend and her brother(they're twins). My friend and her brother were both "big" Yankees fans, in the sense that they watched their playoff games and tried to convince me that I should sympathize with Yankees fans because Boston fans were mean. Keep in mind this is the early 2000s. Anyway, the Phillies were playing a 1 pm game that day and Bobby was out of the lineup and as you all know his trade was announced during the game. After reading the details of the trade, I immediately realized, like most rational baseball fans, that the trade was horrible for us. CJ fucking Henry and Matt Smith!?!?!

Anyway, I decide I'm not going to let sports affect my RL, so I go to the party. Talk to my friend's brother who declares it an even trade and basically tries to tell me how Bobby isn't very good and CJ Henry is a legit prospect. I tried to explain how Abreu was worth more than what we got alone, even at his age. He ends up cursing me out and takes a swing at me(he's drunk and 18), misses and ends up falling into a pile of random stuff in his garage. I tried to calm him down, tell him we're only discussing a sport, it's not worth being a moron over, etc... he finally calms down. later he pours a beer over my head and i totally kick his ass. the year was 1976 and i was living in texas.

I was expecting this to end with you whistling for a cab.

He got a standing ovation when he got traded, then he came back last year for the first time and was booed. I hate Philly fans sometimes. Hopefully he goes out on a good note at least.

What really sucked is Gillick really wanted to trade Burrell but couldn't due to the no trade clause. 2 years later Burrell is a hero at the front of the WS parade and Abreu is treated like he was the reason the team was bad. I also liked Abreu because it was clear that he loved playing in Philly, and that was at a time when most players didn't want to play in Philly which is why we had to overpay for ass players like Adam Eaton and Jon Lieber. :h: Abreu :h:
