One of the things about Brown is he's been hurt a lot. It's tough to "develop" a player when he can't play.

Plus, if this guy ever really paid attention to baseball, he'd know that lots of guys who look like great prospects struggle or fizzle.

I wonder if he'll comment on the Phillies failure to develop Tyson Gillies next.

If Domonic Brown was struggling like Ruf is, the criticism would be deafening. But Darin Ruf is white, so0o0o0o...

Giancarlo Baumann ‏@MJ_Baumann
@tonyisdynamic Or the people who are dumb enough to be Ruf fans are the only ones who are dumb enough to pay attention to ST stats.

SWAGADUCI, DYNAMIC ★ ‏@tonyisdynamic
@MJ_Baumann I think fans dumb enough to be Ruf fans are dumb enough to believe a guy suddenly became a great baseball player 5 months ago.

There's just so much to say about this particular exchange.

Yeah, I had a few comments I was going to write after I posted that but I thought I'd let it stand on its own.

Blow it up. I’d have done that two years ago, but that’s the rational thing to do.

The 2011 Phillies were pretty clearly an anomaly, who got the dogshit kicked out of them in the playoffs. I can't sit here and say we shouldn't have pleaded with Selig for a contraction

That's gotta be trolling. Or maybe he meant after the 2011 season. Even then, it would've been insane, but I can't assume anyone would argue the Phils should've blown up the team going into 2011.

Baumann, on December 13, 2011, wrote:During the last week of July, I lost my mind at the prospect that the Phillies would trade one or more of Jarred Cosart, Domonic Brown, and Jonathan Singleton to Houston for right fielder Hunter Pence. Just remember that we’re dealing with a man who chose to give John Bowker at-bats during a pennant race rather than play Brown. You’ll be fine.

Did anybody call him on this utter bullshit?

Like, "Baumann, show me where you advocated blowing up the team two years ago."

I checked out the comments and there were two that called him on his claim:

MB,

What do you mean when you say you would have blown it up 2 years ago? In March 2011, this team was the best team in baseball about to embark on a 102 win season. Are you saying that, coming of the 2010 NLCS loss to San Francisco, you would not have signed Cliff Lee (2 years and 3 months ago) and you would have looked to trade some of the veterans at that time?

Agree with hk. I assumed Mike meant "at the 2010 trade deadline," which seems even more outlandish. Start swapping older veterans for solid prospects between the 2010 and 2011 seasons? OK. Blow it up? Come on.

And he had this response:

Baumann wrote:Right. Not blow it up but start dismantling the team gradually. Either way, there was going to be at least one rebuilding year.

Right. Don't blow it up. Just slowly sell off your best assets. Totally different.
