this is truely awe inspiring. I choose to believe that he wrote a script that opens up 25 random wiki pages at a time then chooses one to be the subplot in his inane articles.

Smartest thing I've ever read on this site. Now put Ruf in LF, package Revere and Brown to Chicago for Soriano, and all of a sudden we have the most powerful outfield in the division. Ruf can hit 32 HR, Soriano can hit 40, and Young at least 25. The 09 powerhouse offense will be back, and our pitching is still the best. Maybe package Biddle and Pettibone to San Diego for Headley because MYoung is only here for 1 year. Then trade Mayberry, Inciarte, and Kratz to San Fran for Posey? We'd be a dynasty.

like, this guy is presumably trying to join in on the snarky/sarcastic back-patting, but who wouldn't make that headley or posey trade?

Michael Baumann is a South Jersey native whose baseball writing is characterized by a strong reliance on both empirical analysis and elaborate, strained ongoing historical and cultural metaphors. As an undergraduate at the University of South Carolina, he covered soccer and football The Daily Gamecock. He’s written about the Phillies since 2009, first for The Phrontiersman, then for two years at Phillies Nation, where, among other things, he wrote the Dr. Strangeglove series. He also writes about the Philadelphia 76ers at Liberty Ballers.

i guess at least he admits it.

I think one of his favorite exercises is asking people for words to use in his Crashbags. I dunno if he still does it or not. I never understood it myself.

The comments are a riot. Lot of people couldn't see the satire. Probably because it was so awful. Others heaping praise on the thing. I lol'ed I can't lie.

I'm not really sure what triggered it. When I saw it I assumed it was in response to something in particular but I didn't find anything that stood out.

Guessing from twitter timelines I think it might have been a result of a twitter argument he was having after Werth said that the Phillies were the Nationals' main competition. He mocked Werth as a troll and had some back and forth with someone who was saying the Braves aren't relevant because they often choke.

For example...

Giancarlo Baumann ‏@MJ_Baumann
Though if you think one game in 2011 has anything whatsoever to do with 2013, I'm not sure *YOU* know what relevant means.

After arguing a bit he tweeted

Giancarlo Baumann ‏@MJ_Baumann
I will not feed the trolls. I will not feed the trolls. I will not feed the trolls. I will not feed the trolls. I will not feed the trolls.

Then a few hours later tweeted a link to the satire thing.

Giancarlo Baumann ‏@MJ_Baumann
I tried to make this as long as a real newspaper column but blood started pouring from my eye sockets.

Then he wrote this:

Giancarlo Baumann ‏@MJ_Baumann
I wrote that 1) to see if I could and 2) for people who won't realize it's really mean-spirited satire.

So the best I could tell is that, instead of fighting with someone he considered to be a troll, he felt it would be better to be troll himself. One thing may not have had anything to do with the other but I'm guessing they are related because of the timing.

You can rest easy in the knowledge that the Phillies are determined to put anyone at all in right field over Domonic Brown. At this point, I’m convinced that he could step into the batter’s box, point his bat at the pitcher and yell “They still want an American to go, Doctor. You wanna take a ride?” then hit the first pitch he sees 500 feet, and the Phillies would still have him start the season in AAA or in a platoon.

I believe that when the end of the world comes, we, as a society, will be made to answer for our sins, and that chief among them will be the way the Phillies have developed, or neglected to develop, Domonic Brown.

From 20th round pick to top 5 prospect in baseball. His "they haven't developed brown" narrative is his craziest and that's saying something.

He was Ken Griffey Jr. to the Andruw Jones power before Ruben Amaro got his hands on him.

Meanwhile, the Phillies, like a first-class passenger on the Titanic, will amble along in the fog of blissful ignorance, thinking that notoriety and money will save them. God help us all.
