Baumannisms

Trading for Hunter Pence is the action of a man who is, for whatever reason, more concerned with comparatively small problems in the present than big ones in the future. To be clear, that’s not a statement that carries any normative weight; it’s simply a statement of fact that illustrates how Ruben Amaro operates. There’s nothing wrong with putting off future issues, as long as those issues are dealt with in their own time. Christ may have said that tomorrow will take care of itself, but He didn’t say anything of the kind about the 2014 Phillies.

The Atlanta Braves are McDonald’s chicken nuggets, men’s rights activists and Larry the Cable Guy. They are Halliburton, BP and the Chrysler Sebring. They are Tom Sawyer’s whitewashed fence, the Omegas from Animal House and the steampunk Nazi zombies from Sucker Punch. They are Sucker Punch. They are the Cylons, Jeremy Piven and Bud Light. They are the ingrown fingernail, the Olive Garden, the sheriff in O Brother, Where Art Thou? and the flood that kills him. They are the all-consuming, suffocating blandness, a malaise, a miasma, the toothache that you ignore because you hate going to the dentist.

They are Kristen Stewart.

In fact, between Brown and camp invitees Dan Gadzuric and Mikki Moore, this is shaping up to be precisely the kind of team I used to build in NBA Live 2005--completely worthless offensively, but able to block the occasional shot and grab the occasional rebound.

But really, Kwame Brown is filler, the pretzels in ts Sixers-branded bag of Chex Mix. What really makes me bust a gut laughing is that the Sixers saw fit to give him two seasons, as if they couldn't risk letting him back on the market and have someone else gobble up this paragon of stone hands, bad footwork and Montrossian free throw shooting.

Indeed, it is of paramount importance to make sure that all of those things could be had for $3 million a year. For that much money you could hire a ship and a bulldozer, dig up an Easter Island statue and bring it to Philadelphia to back up Andrew Bynum. It would probably run the floor better.

Scully quoting Dylan Thomas, things getting epic up in here

It's gotta be "Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night

And if it is, btw, I'm'a choke someone.

I know everyone love Vin Scully, but could we please not all so blindly into the idea that he only wrote one poem?

And by "he" I mean Dylan Thomas. Would it kill us, as a nation, to learn one of his poems other than "Do Not Go Gentle..."

They didn't give him two seasons, they gave him one and an option. They signed him before they knew they could get Bynum. Even if he triggers the option, which he will, they can get rid of him for nothing at 1/3, because he's tall and can play defense.

Seriously, with all the good things happening to the Sixers right now, it doesn't shock me at all that this goof is going to be the harbinger of doom for them too.

This is the most positive the Sixers fanbase has been before a season in a decade and this is the topic he chose to write about for his first Sixers post.

@goldenmonkey: “give me your nightmare offseason for the Phillies.”

Signing Josh Hamilton, trading Domonic Brown and one or more of the young bullpen arms (particularly Aumont and/or JDF) for another expensive veteran at God knows what position, emptying the farm system, such as it is, for Chase Headley–NO! Not Headley, for, like, Dan Uggla and moving Utley to third base. Roy Halladay never gets completely healthy and Howard reinjures his ankle.

Aside from the injuries, and Dan Uggla, signing Josh Hamilton and trading for Chase Headley is pretty much my dream offseason.
