They've built a marvelous squad with all this money. Good jobs.

You both should be thrilled about this. Unshakable optimists because it probably puts them 3-4 wins to the good, and irredeemable pessimists because the record payroll with another crap record all but guarantees Amaro is gone.

What was the step forward? I must have missed it.

I was counting Burnett, but your mileage may vary on that move.

I like Burnett. Glad he's here. Good pitcher. Sad that I can't shake the opinion that this means Hamels is cooked for 2014.

i don't get the feeling they'd replace Hamels with an expensive piece, bc they know without him, they're toast

Deitch's theory is rube told Hamels to be dramatic about his injury so the owners would let him spend for Burnett. Thinks Hamels will be good to go.

Pretty dumb to think that somehow doing that publicly made the ownership rush to spend the money on Burnett. If something like that happened it would be behind closed doors and I am sure they would ask the doctors how serious the injury is.

It's not like there was a public outcry to go get Burnett or else people wouldn't show up or watch the games.

Hey Cole, go make a public statement that you may miss a game or two and that will make the owners spend 16 million.
