you think a relatively measly one year GM salary would affect their decision at the end of this year?

think of what your expectations for this team are this season. amaro would have to do even worse than that for the front office to think about ditching him. i don't think another mediocre year is enough for the ax

I'm saying having a year of contract left isn't a factor

More about not burning bridges with someone who will inevitably be back in 2 years as assistant GM #16 than about the cash saved.

That is just not a factor. You don't worry about burning bridges when you're the employer and when Comcast, who will be a factor bc they are Comcast, is around

Comcast has no leverage to insist on a change like that. They signed a contract and have to honor it. All they have control over is the TV broadcast. The owners and Dave Montgomery choose the GM and I think they will look for any reason to keep Amaro around as long as possible (like his contract expiring in 1 year anyway).

i don't think you give Comcast enough credit. They signed this deal to make money. if they're not making money, then they will use their power. it's going to be like seinfeld when the company was trying to get rid of george

Disagree. The expectation are low because Amaro's done a shitty job. It's not like he inherited a bad situation. He inherited a world champion, and was permitted to double the payroll. And now he has one of the 5 or so worst teams in the league. He's astonishingly bad at his job. And the record, the attendance, and the revenues will support that.

Buh-motherfucking-bye.

i'd imagine the FO is on board with this "plan", whatever it is.. a transition. They've elected to maintain the status quo and re-invest in the core, hope for some health and a little luck. The moves arent thrilling and don't point toward competing with other teams in free agency. It doesn't seem like a GM who is at the end of his rope and desperate to save his hide. Instead, the additions we have cautious are short term maneuvers. The job security is there for now.

You're only looking at it one way. It could be the FO is putting him in a "you made your bed" situation, and already at the 5th highest payroll, they can't really allow a guy they may get rid of to handcuff them to more contracts. If Rube firmly believes the core needs to be healthy to compete, and he's had 5 years to add to it, then this may be his last chance from the FO. and this doesn't count comcast not wanting to lose money

you don't usually talk shit about a high profile employee when you haven't fired him yet and are trying to get a tv deal

not talk shit, but something to indicate how they feel about what he's doing up there one way or the other. nobody really knows what its like behind the scenes, but when i'm trying to gauge the temperate of this front office, i don't get the sense that they're breathing down his neck.

charlie was a lame duck coach and suffocated until he was pushed out. sandberg was brought in close proximity and eventually given the job. writers and fans are putting the heat on amaro, but the FO could have their full support behind him. to make things clear, i want him gone, but i dont feel confident about that
