Verducci with this gem

Baseball attendance is down 2.9 percent, but the Miami Marlins alone account for 40 percent of the decline in tickets sold

kinda crazy MLB is so locked into such a bad situation with the Marlins now because of their stadium deal. The Expos-Nats relocation was the league's first in 33 years. they had 10 in 20 years from 1953 through 1972, then stopped it altogether for decades. It must be a priority of the league to keep teams in their places for an extended period of time because of the relative volatility of the '50s and '60s. The Montreal move took what felt like forever. That's how Florida's going to feel for the next decade.

Justin Upton has caught the suck from BJ and Heyward. .654 OPS in May.

Had to look it up. I know, right? This guy has proven time and time again that he is terrible and now this.

Funny game, baseball.

Also Marco Scutaro is acting like he's Allan Trammel in his prime at the age of 37. He was always a decent offensive player but he's been unconscious with the Giants. Didn't establish himself in the bigs until he was 28 and didn't become an above average hitter until he was 33. Wonder what Baumann would make of him?

Pitching is supposed to be their strength but three of their five starters have ERAs greater than 4.87. And their closer is Fernando Rodney. Yowsa.

Rodney who managed to maintain a 0.60 ERA last year. Seems the Rays deal with the devil only lasts a single season per player.

Why exactly are the cardinals so good? I had conceded that div. to the reds preseason and figured the cardinals were the team the phillies had to beat out for the WC

Wasn't their Minor league system supposed to be pure crap a few years ago? And yet, they have this stream of guys who come up and do good things.

Allan Craig, David Freese, Matt Carpenter, Daniel Descalso, Matt Adams. Anyone know much about these guys before they came up? It seems like they are kids but they are like 27-30 years old (well, not Adams but he plays like an old guy). It would be like we called up Ruf and Big Jim Murphy and that Tyler Henson and they all were pretty good big leaguers.

Plus they made two really good signings in Holliday and Beltran. And they have the best catcher in baseball who is peaking at age 30.

And they are really good at developing pitchers. They just called up a 21 year old and he gave them a really nice start. They pick these other guys off the scrap heap -- Westbrook and Mujica are two of the latest -- and get great work put of them too.

A helluva organization really. They change pitching coaches and managers and GMs but continue to to all the same things well.

Had a .331 .381 .538 .919 line in 2007. He's just regressing to the mean after wandering away from it like one of those hilarious Family Circus paths where Billy goes off looking for his Dad to tell him the house is on fire and Mom's trapped under a fallen bookcase.

Family Circus was kinda under rated. The guy addressed the death of granpa I believe. Loved following Billy's paths in those strips you're referring to.

Anyway, that was Loney's rookie year. He only finished tied for sixth. Kyle Kendrick finished fifth. Hunter Pence was third. In the AL, Delmon Young finished second and Josh Fields got a vote!
