Can't make this stuff up
So is this above or below Dave Hollins spider bite DL stint, in terms of ridiculousness?
U.S. District Court Judge Jed S. Rakoff ruled Monday that Mets principal owner Fred Wilpon, his family, businesses and charities must pay as much as $83 million to the trustee trying to recover funds to net losers in Bernard Madoff's Ponzi scheme. He also ruled that the sides will go to trial March 19 over an additional $303 million that [trustee Irving] Picard is seeking.

nothing can ever beat the spider bite, imo
Hill suffers from an intense condition of arachnophobia. On one occasion Hill sustained cuts and scrapes on his feet, knees and arm during a violent nightmare about spiders. Hill popped out of bed, bumped into a glass table and plunged down a staircase, all occurring when he was asleep. Hill ended up being placed on the 15-day disabled list. This led to him being nicknamed "Spiderman."

Wait Until Next Year. Or Next.
Or …
Thanks to the Wilpon-Madoff mess, Mets fans could be in for an ugly drought.
The Mets are turning 50 years old this year. (April 11 marks the 50th anniversary of their first game, an 11-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Stan Musial went 3 for 3.) This season should be a yearlong celebration, a rollicking ongoing remembrance of one of baseball’s most endearing and eccentric organizations. Instead, it’s yet another year the Mets brass can’t wait to get over before it even starts. This 50th birthday is a grim one. This is a birthday for a 50-year-old who lost his entire 401(k) and is now collecting unemployment while working part time as a greeter at Wal-Mart.

A ruling Monday in U.S. District Court delivered more bad news to the Wilpons, who’d hoped Judge Jed S. Rakoff would dismiss the lawsuit case against them. Instead, Rakoff said the Wilpon family must pay up to $83.3 million to trustee Irving Picard – and that’s even before a trial begins March 19.
No doubt the judgment will be appealed, as will the verdict by whichever side loses; the Wilpons could be on the hook for another $303 million if the jury sides with Picard. But to even contest the preliminary sum, the Wilpons would be required to put 110 percent of the principle in escrow. That means coming up with $91 million in cash, a new burden that runs concurrent to the $25 million loan from Major League Baseball, which has yet to be repaid, and the $40 million bridge loan from Bank of America, which also is outstanding.
