Pedro Martinez Appreciation Thread

Today's game was mostly spectacular, but I was a little sad that Pedro didn't pitch long enough to get the W, and I feel sad that this is perhaps the last we'll see of Pedro in a Phillies uniform.

Thanks Pedro, I :h: ed every second of it.

Well, if they don't make him a starter, or if they don't need a fourth starter (heaven forfend), this might have been it. I guess they won't bring him back next year, so that makes me a little

Probably. But tonight was also very likely my one and only chance to see him in person in a Phillies uniform, so that's why I felt a little wistful on an otherwise glorious day.

Was he pulled for any reason other than being on a PC by the way? He had only thrown 84 pitches when they took him out; I thought they'd want to let him pitch the 5th to make him eligibl for the W.

He said something along the lines of doobs telling him that this was only a tune-up. So my assumption was that he'd run his course and it had nothing to do with the situation.

If so, I guess he was on a pitch count or something.

We're in the same boat. I love Pedro.

Since you were at the game, did you hear how loud the booing was when he didn't run down the 1st base line? I thought that so ridiculous that they would boo him. He just hurt his neck during an at-bat in his last start, why the hell would he sprint down the first base line on a routine grounder? It's not like he's not "gritty" enough for some of the fans, he's one of the greatest competitors ever and just threw 130 pitches against the Mets.

The Moyer injury makes it more likely that Pedro will return, IMO.

Yes, that was annoying/stupid.

pedro was outside of the player's parking lot for 5 minutes or so signing autographs after everyone had cleared out. it was pretty darn cool to get a wave from him as his driver pulled away.
Fine. You wanna act like you're two? I'll act like I'm one.

Really? Wow. I should have hung around.

Total legend. I am going to have to buy an 8 x 10 photo of Pedro in a Phillies uniform. I never do that, but for Pedro I will make an exception.

I had no idea players did that. I thought players privately leave without anyone seeing them.

people hang out by the players' lot sometimes for hours after the games

it's kind of creepy. i have to walk by it on my way out, though. last year some people managed to get their way into the garage itself and scared the heck out of some of the players.

If it was after a win I don't see why they would be scared, maybe a deer in the headlights shocked kind of look.

Where exactly is the player's lot? I'd love to get a Pedro autograph

so if you were a public figure and you were in an enclosed lot and someone was waiting for you by your car, you'd be cool with that?

Oh, waiting by their car is a different (and creepy) story. I thought some fans were just in there hanging out and snapping pictures.
