Once we trade Howard for Halladay, Utley can move to first. Manny in LF will ease the power lost with Donald replacing Howard in the lineup.

eric bruntlett hit a HR in the playoffs and scored 2 of the most important runs in franchise history

I was always afraid he hurt it in that collision with Rowand. He didn't hit well after that collision for a while and then it seemed like a chronic type thing that reemerged as he played the long season last year. But looking at that clip, I can see how he did it. Thanks.

Hopefully the procedure only goes as far as an arthro-$#@!-scopic procedure.

He was far and away the best defensive 2B in the league with a bum hip. I can't imagine he'll be worse after the surgery.

and hopefully he didn't damage it further by playing on it for months, though the championship was worth it.

you never know once you go under the knife. Complications, scar tissue, constricted movement. It might not hurt his range immediately but there could be a long term issue there.

Moving Utley to first diminishes his value. He's awesome because he plays such an elite 2B defensively. His offense at 1B is good, but not MVP good, like he is at 2B.

And I don't think Harman is the answer. At all. In 2008, at AA, he hit .210/.280/.366, with a bad K rate. His second full year at Clearwater, as a 21 year old in 2007, he had a good year offensively (.790 OPS). You can't project ok numbers at Clearwater a year ago to replacement level production at the ML level. He's probably 2 years away, at which time he'll still only be 24/25.

* Amaro said he thought Utley’s struggles - for Utley - in the second half were more mechanical. He wasn’t sure how much that had to do with Utley’s right hip.

This is a joke, right?

So, apparently championship champagne provides up to 4 weeks of pain relief

Hopefully the procedure will go well, and he'll recover perfectly. Explains his cooling down from the hot start somewhat. The only thing is this -- medical surgeons are invested in cutting. They believe that cutting is often the answer. I'm not saying they don't know what they are doing, aren't cuatious, but I wonder sometimes -- if simple rest could allow it to heal. If he took certain physical therapy and rest?? Less invasive, less recovery -- and maybe there is something on an MRI, but does it absolutely require the knife? I saw the word "exploratory" in one of the articles -- what if there is nothing signficant to find? Hips are critical for hitters. Obviously, this is between Chase, his doctors and his family. I wish him a speedy recovery and return to the lineup, I'm still waiting for him to have that complete MVP season and give us a tri-fecta, not to mention -- I really like winning World Series, gimme some more!

* The Phillies according to general manager Rube Amaro Jr. are in a position to go into the season without Utley with Eric Bruntlett and Jason Donald.

They're doing the scope b/c they don't know the extent of the surgery. This is a guy who makes some people millions of dollars. They're not throwing him on a slab and letting Freddy Kreuger have at him

Dang it. So I'm back to being worried about the hit with Rowand.

I'd feel better if it were a single "trauma" i.e., the Feliz play, than I do with some ambiguous possibly degenerative thing. Hips are tricky.
