He definitely comes across corporate and douchey, but I have to say it's silly to not consider that he's had a major impact on the construction of this club, bridging the Wade and Gillick eras. Or at the very least learned a lot.

Oh wait --didn't he <strike> rip off Wade </strike> construct the Lidge deal?

No. I could care less. Amaro, Arbuckle, Joe Banner, whatever. Phils are winning the World Series. I can die happy now.

It doesn't work like that. You'd think it does, but then they start playing games again, and it sucks you back in.

well i for one will never again badmouth the blanton deal, even if cardenas turns out to be a hall of famer and blanton eaton's the rest of his contract

That's completely different than what I'm saying, and I think different from what Vox was going for.

oh i understand, i'm just saying, i really don't care what happens if the phils win the championship. and frankly, if amaro was part of building this team, i can't be that upset if they give him the top spot. yeah, he's not my ideal guy, but why would you hire someone external to change things when things have gone so well the last few years?

i agree with seke. i understand why this would be considered bad news; but whatevs--i have a hard time getting upset about it if he really was the guy behind the scenes in building a world series contender, especially if gillick really was just a figurehead like we all joke about.

besides: we all knew for months that this would probably happen. no shocker

Amen to that. all i could think cycling home today is we need a big audacious set of moves this offseason. I keep wondering what we'd get for howard if we win.

The last two years I've seen just how painful our winning is to Mets fans. I never want to lose that feeling.

Right. I don't particularly give a crap if we name Amaro GM because I have no idea how that move will work. It doesn't look great, but I made fun of the Eyre trade, and that has been pretty key. A lot of people hated the Blanton trade, look where that's gotten us.

But to pretend that next July 4th or whatever, if we're tied with the Mets and 10,000 of their asshole fans invade CBP, you'd be OK with getting swept if we are able to finish this off this week, you're lying to yourself. Maybe you'd be more OK than you would be otherwise, but yeah. It'll still matter.
