I don't think I'm ready. I might faint/have a stroke/head explode around 11:23 tonight.

i'm FINALLY right now setting up the one I got off of ebay to avoid listening to the wheeler/mccarthy innings

I dont have the thing that connects the Tivo to the cable box that allows it to learn the channels. Either the small wire things, or the cable that connects it. My last cable box didn't support the direct link, but I don't even know where that cable is.

AccuScore has Phils at 60/40. Biggest difference I've ever seen.

Game 2 was 62-38 in favor of Tampa, I believe.

I'd say a few general good ideas are to make sure you don't blackout from drinking, and you make sure you're watching the game with people who will appreciate the moment.

Considering you'll be working and at the game, you should probably be OK on both fronts.

Between staying up extremely late five nights a week for a month, screaming my lungs out and flailing around, and consuming hoagies, wings, and lots of beers, I'm a physical and emotional wreck right now. And it's beautiful!

Well that's all well and good, but there aren't too many occasions that come along that combine the nervous excitement of tonight, which tends to increase consumption, with the potential of also being must remember night.

Oh yeah.

Maybe five hours of sleep Saturday night. Maybe four last night--we got home from the game around 5am, and I had to get up a bit past 9 for a meeting at 11. Was tension-drinking during Saturday's game, gorging on unhealthy food and beer and wine all day and night Sunday, and now feel perched on a physical collapse--which I'm actually craving in hopes that it will get me sufficiently reacclimated that I can be in good form for tonight.

And it's... well, Grote had the word. It's beautiful. It's about the most wonderful thing I can remember. We drove back up Broad Street last night, honking and high-fiving and waving the rally towel out of the window. Being home for the game, having spent so little time in Philadelphia the last few years, it felt like a large chunk of the city's permanent inferiority complex was about to be blasted away, all thanks to the talent and toughness of the guys in the red caps.

So I'm not ready right now. I'm hoping that by first pitch tonight, I'll be ready.

Without meaning to get ahead of ourselves (ahem . . .) and based on my own experience from 1980, I'll say that if and when the Phils win the WS you will always remember where you were and who you were with. So it really is a watershed moment. My advice is not to pre-plan how you'll feel, what you'll do, etc., but just to be in the moment and let it carry you. And, as others have mentioned, I'd suggest not getting plastered because, as the years go by, you'll regret not being "present."

I consider myself very lucky to have experienced this moment once in my adult life. The thought of experiencing it twice is really quite wonderful. Unlike 1980, though, if and when it happens, I'll get to experience it with you guys, which will make it all the better.
