Post the box score of your first Phillies game

Postby Drugs Delaney » Sat Apr 05, 2008 16:45:27

The first Phillies game I ever attended was on July 31, 1988. I was a Phillies fan since I was five years old, but it took me until I was 14 to talk my non-baseball fan dad to take me to a game. Highlights of the game include seeing Mike Maddux beat his younger, more successful brother Greg with each brother getting a hit off the other. I also got to see Ricky Jordan's first career double and it ended up being the only game I ever saw Mike Schmidt play in person. He was my hero as a little kid so I'm glad I did get to see him once, even though he did go 0-3 with a walk.

but my family only showed up in the top of the 3rd and left in the top of the 6th. still, they won, and i saw john russell hit that homerun.

Ha, that's the game where Rolen got hurt. He wouldn't have been eligible for Rookie of the Year the next year had he gotten one more AB.

I had been to a few before that I have no idea what the dates were but this one is the first one I have any recollection of and the date is easy for me to remember.

I'm not absolutely certain, but I think this was it:

http://retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1980/B07140PHI1980.htm

My dad got a new car that day--a Toyota Celica--and took me to the game. We left early, though, and what I mostly remember is listening to it on the radio on the way home, hoping we'd keep hitting red lights so I could hear the end.

Later that year I'm pretty sure we saw this one:

though as I remember it nearly three decades later, Lefty threw a shutout, which evidently wasn't the case. :?

A double header loss to the Cards in 1964. This experience got me used to following this club.

Had to be a game in 1985, because I can vaguely remember Ozzie Virgil playing in the game, and his last season with the Phillies was 1985. We had the Sunday plan when I was a kid.

It would have been spring of 1979. 700 level, of course. Can't remember the exact game. Late May/Early June.

That's the only game in which Luzinski hit a homer against the Dodgers in Philly in 1977.

I don't remember all that much from this game. I remember Strawberry hitting that double, and how I thought he was out at second. But I wasn't quite 7 years old, so I probably didn't have any idea.

What a weird box score. Schilling had a complete game and there were no pinch hitters or defensive replacements, so the Phillies ended up only using nine guys in a game they won by 8. Also, Joe Millette?

I have no idea. I remember the game, it was night and cold, I'd suspect the fall rather than the spring. My aunt and uncle took me. Probably around 1977-1978, I believe the Phillies lost. I got a ridiculously large button with a picture of the Phanatic on it. I thought it was dopey even then.

It's fascinating to me how some people remember stuff like this so well. I don't. I have a terrible head for remember details like that. The only Phillies game I remember those kind of details was Schilling's World Series game. Other significant events in my life I remember well, but those details like what were my wife and I watching on TV the first time we started making out? Total blank.

I also can't remember my first game. I don't even remember what year it may have been.

I probably wouldn't remember, but my dad kept the book and it's probably still in my house somewheres.

this is the first game that i remember going to, though i don't think it was the first. we left in the 7th when they were down 9-0 so we could go to what's the scoop. we got home just in time to see them lose 10-9. i've hated them ever since.
