Well I wasn't sure if he was going in the wayback machine and suggesting we should have drafted Manny.

Although the Cubs took Doug Glanville one pick before the Indians picked Manny.

Thanks for the link... I just wasted 20 minutes or so going through the drafts of the early to mid 1990s.
Though the Phillies obviously made mistakes, they also got the best player (so far) from the 1996 draft in Jimmy Rollins. One probably could say the same about 2000 (Utley) and maybe '01 (Howard).

well, they were probably only offering below slot deals, and that really limits the kind of talent that you can take. if you're signing 5th round talent, it doesn't matter that you took them in the first, they're still 5th round talent.Disco Stu wrote:Anyone know what the deal was in 1997 where the Nats/Expos got 7 compensation picks? And that they ALL sucked.

You say that as if it's a bad thing.

thankfully this guy didn't either:
June 3, 1997: Drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2nd round of the 1997 amateur draft, but did not sign.
Chase Utley

You'd be surprised by how many stars we could have had and just picked either A) league average guys or B) never even made the majors guys.
Once I get a decent amount together, I'll post a thread about it.
