Got challenged and was trailing after 2nd place got the answer right, but he bet $20K and pulled out another win. Fell short of $2M though

Nate would have won if he just had bet it all on his daily double! If you get that wrong you are very likely going to lose anyway so why not just go for it?

Do we know yet when other people started to pick up on James' strategy? I guess that's been the one weird thing about watching this, it's all taped months ago, so nobody maybe knew how to face him? I guess Nate had maybe seen him perform and studied him a bit, but it would have been before there was any media coverage, right?

They tape 5 a day, so unless you're in the first game, you know what you're up against. And I would be shocked if producers didn't give contestants the run down. They at the very least know he's a 20 time champion averaging like a fucking buttload of money each game.

It was real weird watching him get beat in the Jeopardy round last night. Like seeing Federer lose to someone you've never heard of. Very unsettling.

All the contestants who are there for that week’s tapings sit in the audience for the other games, so most of the newbies get to see how James plays before they face him.

The only time contestants who are in the studio do not watch other games is in the first round of tournaments, so no one knows how much money is required to get one of the four non-winner slots in the semifinals.

There was a moment in Double Jeopardy where it was briefly interesting

She was an odd one

But yeah there was a point where she got to $8k and he had $16k and he bet $11k on the Daily Double. If he got it wrong it would've been interesting.

This NPR Planet Money reporter is related by marriage to Holzhauer. This a a pretty fun listen (and ends with an interview with Holzhauer)

Trebek said in an interview that doctors are very positive and he is in “near remission.” Some of the tumors have shrunk over 50 percent.
