I was coaching track at my local high school this afternoon, and a guy comes up to talk to me through the fence. We have a ton of construction going on, and he was in the middle of the construction area. He's holding his phone and asks where the sports hall of fame is, since he wants to take a picture. Not a big guy: I'm a shade under six feet, and I was looking him in the eye. Athletic looking but not really broad shouldered or impressive in any way. Took him for an ex-jock reporter doing a story on local athletics. Anyway, I had to sadly report that our trophy case was in the gym, which was sealed off as they'd removed the skin of the building, and the Hall of Fame display had been in the building next to it, which was torn down and is now just a foundation and super structure. No idea what they've done with the plaques and trophies in the interim.

Another coach, who's been there for over forty years, sidles up to talk to him, and I turn my attention to the runners. They chat for a while, but when I finally look around after a few minutes, he's gone.

The coach tells me the guy wanted a picture of his dad's display in the Hall of Fame. Dad was apparently an excellent 400 runner as well as football player, and in fact had been enshrined the same year as the long-time coach and his wife. Had a couple sons but this one wasn't in town much and had hoped to take advantage of the opportunity.

So, don't know if it qualifies as a star sighting if I didn't sight him as a star until after he left, but the star was
