The speech is good but god he sounds like he's had a minor stroke. Slurring words, tripping over them constantly.

I think this is a dumb take that only echoes shitty takes on far left and right wing internet. I just rewatched the speech, I thought the delivery was fine. VP Biden has a known stuttering issue, and I'm not a medical expert nor am I a conspiratorial enough to attribute any slip ups to a separate health issue.

I know this is BSG, so parroting that Biden had a stroke or is senile doesn't really matter... I just expect more out of people here.

Seriously. 77 year old stroke victims aren't getting down on one knee for a photo op.

I just learned something which I regard as significant. My stepdaughter's father-in-law-to-be is a staunch, evangelical conservative, living in Orlando who voted for Trump in 2016. He's had enough of Trump and is voting for Biden this year.

Just one person, but I didn't know even one existed and, if there's one, there may be more.

WWI was both “the Great War” and “the war to end all wars.”

The following is a statement from Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Michael Curry:

This evening, the President of the United States stood in front of St. John’s Episcopal Church, lifted up a bible, and had pictures of himself taken. In so doing, he used a church building and the Holy Bible for partisan political purposes. This was done in a time of deep hurt and pain in our country, and his action did nothing to help us or to heal us.

The bible teaches us that “God is love.” Jesus of Nazareth taught, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” The prophet Micah taught that the Lord requires us to “do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with our God.”

The bible the President held up and the church that he stood in front of represent the values of love, of justice, of compassion, and of a way to heal our hurts.

We need our President, and all who hold office, to be moral leaders who help us to be a people and nation living these values. For the sake of George Floyd, for all who have wrongly suffered, and for the sake of us all, we need leaders to help us to be “one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all.”

I guess they wouldn't kick him out if he walked in, but it will be a less welcoming environment that day.

In a weird way, this is reassuring. We survived stuff like this before, so maybe we can survive it again.

Wasn't sure if this belonged more here or in the civil rights thread but:

Biden is attending Geroge Floyd's funeral. Hopefully Obama sits next to Joe.

I have noticed a TON more clergy being very vocally disgusted by that, much more than when he's done other questionable things in the name of Christianity, which is good to see. Hoping some of the people who call themselves Christians who have for some reason associated Trump with Christianity will begin to see the light, as it were.

Maybe Biden can make some backroom deal with some evil regime to release american prisoners.

It might be a good ad, but I loathe the idea of using the words of that racist dick to help our cause. Reagan used dog whistles just as Trump does. The GOP may have cemented Reagan in history as some kind of grandfatherly leader, but he was very willing to use racist shit to get votes. He was more practical then present day republicans, but his bloodline runs strong through the modern GOP.

I think he just sounds very old. But so does Trump at times. Trump also has some classic signs of senility that I don't see in Biden. How many times has Trump just kinda wandered off on stage or moving from plane to car, etc? Watch him looking at rocket launch the other day. He couldn't stand still for 15 seconds. They are both very old. But if Trump continues to deteriorate, we'll get Stephen Miller making decisions. With Biden, we'll get some non-evil person.

I turned on MSNBC when this all went down and one of their reporters said it appeared he was doing a military review prior to giving his sign-off. He is living his Rodney King wet-dream in real time.
