Back when I was working in a deli, there was this one lady who every single time would never hear her number called. Like if she had ticket number 17, you could call it out on the intercom a half dozen times and she would never hear it. The very second you called out 18, though, she’d flip out saying you never called her number or didn’t say it loud enough.

My Acme doesn’t use the numbering system. One in Ocean City does it sporadically. I say you gotta use it, even if you’re the only one there. I know that might not be directly related to this issue, but that’s my take.

Seriously what’s the issue? I would think we have the technology in the form of kiosks to fix it. Is this an issue with people fearing automation intruding into their lives, the privacy of your order being compromised or is this being held up in the court system with those demanding a state issued ID to be able to pick your order up?

For a few glorious months, my Giants had kiosks where you could place an order and go shop. When it was ready you would be texted. It saved previous orders too, so I just entered my phone number and clicked on the order i wanted again. Then they just abandoned that system.

We had something similar out here and it disappeared too, but it was half assed compared to the system you described. They just threw your order into a pickup basket with no notification and you had to find it. I think people couldn’t find their orders and they were left tossing meat at the end of the day.

Not sure if this would work at your giant, but at ours you can order from an app on your phone and they’ll give you a 30 min window of when it will be ready and then text you when it’s done. Saves your old orders etc. I put my order in before I even leave the house. It’s great

mine has (had?) the kiosk also, but people with numbers were prioritized over kiosk orders. So if you were gonna be in the store less than 30 minutes it was a crapshoot

I don’t know what the system at mine was. There would be 10-12 people waiting at the counter and mine would be done in 15 minutes. I miss it

When I was a kid, there was a show on (I think Sat afternoons) which I think was called Bowling for Dollars and for some reason, I think that they showed cheesy horror flicks (maybe while people were bowling)? Does anybody remember that at all?

Anyway, I remember one of the flicks that they showed was about a mad scientist that turned his daughter's boyfriend into a snake. I think at the end, it wasn't a complete transformation.

It is a little better last night and this morning than it was Friday and Saturday. She is no longer texting me just to tell me that she hates me and wants me to die.
