As if he will keep it closed for months...

I would love to see Trump supporters and their support for the shutdown when they are informed they won't get their tax refunds if the government is still closed.

Yep, the only reason why this shutdown is still happening is that Social Security is fully funded and operational through the end of September.

I think, long term, feds will benefit from this bullshit because Congress and the next POTUS are going to have to kiss some serious ass in the form of generous pay raises to keep qualified workers from moving en masse to the private or non-profit sectors.

Hundreds of Transportation Security Administration officers, who are required to work without paychecks through the partial government shutdown, have called out from work this week from at least four major airports, according to two senior agency officials and three TSA employee union officials.

The mass call outs could inevitably mean air travel is less secure, especially as the shutdown enters its second week with no clear end to the political stalemate in sight.

"This will definitely affect the flying public who we (are) sworn to protect," Hydrick Thomas, president of the national TSA employee union, told CNN.

At New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, as many as 170 TSA employees have called out each day this week, Thomas tells CNN. Officers from a morning shift were required to work extra hours to cover the gaps.

Call outs have increased by 200%-300% at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, where typically 25 to 30 TSA employees call out from an average shift according to a local TSA official familiar with the situation.

When the TSA formed, Republicans of course made it illegal for them to unionize. But if you're not paying people at all the collective action problem unions are supposed to solve goes away. Since a TSA job isn't all that high paying in the first place, you've got to figure it's not too tough for those people to find other jobs at equal pay, and it's quite possible many of them won't come back.

I think this does have a possibility of snow balling.

Yep ... No one is going to stick around without pay for a $35k salary. Once NATCA starts refusing overtime then things will really get fucked.

It's almost like he's going out of the way to destabilize the country. I really hope whatever Mueller has on him is ironclad. He's going to try some crazy shit if they try to remove him from office. His supporters are heavily armed.

Apparently, he might declare a national emergency to build the wall.

The story in the New York Times regarding Jim Webb being considered as the next Secretary of Defense is FAKE NEWS. I’m sure he is a fine man, but I don’t know Jim, and never met him. Patrick Shanahan, who is Acting Secretary of Defense, is doing a great job!

So Jim turned him down.

Was at a Christmas party a few weeks ago and my neighbor was rambling about a civil war if there's impeachment. Yeah, ok. His supporters aren't going to do shit but yell at their TV's.

This is not a test, this is a national emergency... I repeat, a national emergency....

The moody president is whining and crying that he is not a emperor, and his every word, wish, or whim will not be acted on immediately and completely without thought or question. Currently this moping extends to a severe shortage of tissue to mop up the tears of rage flowing from the infant leader. How fucking stupid.

Most won’t do anything, unfortunately I have a feeling that some of the really unhinged ones will.

They don't believe we deserve to be paid well or that we contribute to society. This is one of the main talking points of conservatives and has been for at least two generations.

The Conservative take on it reminds me of the old joke about why the Amish forbid sex while in the standing position: It could lead to dancing.

Surreal

As we went around DC last night, I kept thinking, what are they doing?

Fortunately DC and the institutions will be here when they are gone.

Of note HUNDREDS of nominees were sent BACK to the White House.

All Trump entities are under investigation.

An amendment that would prohibit presidential pardons for any in the administration or campaign is being considered.

We have a former escort as first lady

Trump setting the stage to declare victory that he can use military to build wall and therefore doesn’t need funding from congress, allowing him to sign a bill with no wall money and “win the day.”

He will again use the military for political purposes like he did with the caravan. No wall will actually get built.
On a scale of 1 to Chris Brown, how pissed is he?
