Republican playbook:

Step 1: Create massive deficits with tax cuts and runaway spending

Step 2: Proclaim that government is broken and only corporations can fix it

Step 3: Break government

Step 4: Insist on cutting social programs and privatizing everything under the sun because of created deficits and the fact that government is broken

Step 5: Profit

we're a murderous country and have been so for a long time

you have a bully pulpit as president to set the tone for other countries and your own and strive to do better

you don't just have to throw up your hands and say 'oh well, we kill people too! i guess you're cool!'

congress has power, too!

we are currently working with Saudi Arabia killing innocent people for money. I know you know this because you've posted about it. so you're mad that Trump isn't what... yelling at Saudi Arabia to not kill a Saudi Arabian citizen?

yes? the US is especially in a position to denounce them because of its relationship with Saudi Arabia. you don't have to agree with everything your ally does and can call them out. instead, rubber-stamping everything means they will simply continue to act worse and worse. you also set the tone for other nations where we have transactional relationships. we have just rubber-stamped the murdering of journalists. Turkey has jailed countless academics and journalists for spurious reasons; they may as well murder them now and face no repercussions from us since we have signaled we don't especially care.

i'm also upset we're selling weapons to them. we can use this moment to stop selling weapons to them and right the ship. Democrats have actually been able to stop the sale of some.

if your nation is doing something bad, you don't just throw up your hands and say 'well, we have no moral say in anything else'. you seek to improve the situation. Our nation has an especially important role in the world whether we've chosen it or not; nations follow our lead. we've seen this with good and bad things we do.

Scott Wagner is now bashing Tom Wolf for not serving in Vietnam.

He's gonna win the 1970 Governor's race with that one!

Bold strategy, especially considering Wanger himself did not serve in the military.

AP: So my question is, if Republicans were to lose control of the House on November 6th — or a couple of days later depending on how long it takes to count the votes — do you believe you bear some responsibility for that?

Trump: No, I think I’m helping people. Look, I’m 48 and 1 in the primaries, and actually it’s much higher than that because I endorsed a lot of people that were successful that people don’t even talk about. But many of those 48, as you know, were people that had no chance, in some cases. We look at Florida, you look at Donovan in Staten Island. He was losing by 10 points, I endorsed him and he won. I could give you a long list of names. Look at Georgia governor of Georgia. And many, many races. And I will say that we have a very big impact. I don’t believe anybody’s ever had this kind of an impact. They would say that in the old days that if you got the support of a president or if you’ve got the support of somebody it would be nice to have, but it meant nothing, zero. Like literally zero. Some of the people I’ve endorsed have gone up 40 and 50 points just on the endorsement.

That response is Exhibits A through ZZ of Trump's narcissism. I mean, holy shit, what a fucking egomaniac.

BIG NEWS

DJT said that at his cabinet meeting, after everyone praises him and thanks him for his raising the sun in the morning to warm them and turns off the lights to whisk them into dream land, that he will be asking for a 5% across the board cut to make up for the exploding deficit which he installed via tax cuts.

I was watching Morning Joe this morning (when else) and three consecutive political commercials came on, Menendez, Hugin, and then Menendez again. It sickens me that those two are New Jerseyans' only legitimate choices.

My local ads are:

on the Republican side that the Democrat will do Clinton bidding, and that when she was attorney general there were two situations where someone accused of rape negotiated a better sentencing. There's no real details on that. And also all the Democrat was the Attorney General the toll roads were not only turned on, but a Six Mile Stretch cost $40 a couple of times. And that would be her fault.

On the Democrat side, it's all about Donald Trump. Woman running for house has voted on Trump type issues 98% of the time, and that seems to be the drum there beating. The other is to push back on the big lie, which is a video tape of the the Democratic candidate the crying the toll roads as planned to be literal highway robbery, she says highway robbery in the peace taken from a newscast, and that demonstrates the GOP is lying.

Somehow we're looking out on the Senate side. Tim Kaine is got a humongous lead, so maybe that's part of it and I know that the GOP is not giving hardly any money to Corey Stewart because he's a dumpster fire and they know it. But the ads there seem a lot more infrequent, and for the most part are pretty ignorable. What stands out is an ad from the Democrats with a sound bite of the GOP candidate saying he wished Trump would vote against the military budget, and Corey Stewart's response ad is just to say crazy crap that most people who aren't racist don't pay any attention to.

There has been zero talk of Nancy Pelosi.

[Rock] Scott's idea was that on his last day in office, he would appoint three Republicans to the Florida Supreme Court. The state consitution says that three existing Democratic-appointed justices on the court would hit mandatory retirement on the same date he would exit the governor's mansion: January 8. Scott twisted the meaning of this to interpret it as, the justices would be out of office at midnight on January 8, but he would still be governor until the moment the next governor is sworn in — meaning he would have a window of a few hours to jam his own cronies onto the court instead of the next governor. Last month, in anticipation of this, Scott ordered the judicial nominating commission — whose members he himself appointed — to give him a list of candidates to pick from on January 8.

Had Scott gone through with this scheme, the Florida Supreme Court would have gone from 4-3 Republican appointees to 7-0, all but ensuring the state courts would become a rubber stamp for the GOP regardless of who won the governor's race.

But following a lawsuit by the League of Women Voters, the Florida Supreme Court itself has now weighed in against this plan, in a ruling that blocks Scott from making the appointments.

"The governor who is elected in the November 2018 general election has the sole authority to fill the vacancies,"

In his jaw-dropping interview with the Associated Press, he was asked about climate change, specifically scientists’ conclusion that we are “nearing a point where this can’t be reversed.” He replied:

Trump wrote:Some say that and some say differently. I mean, you have scientists on both sides of it. My uncle was a great professor at MIT for many years. Dr. John Trump. And I didn’t talk to him about this particular subject, but I have a natural instinct for science, and I will say that you have scientists on both sides of the picture.

A real answer.

up to 14 million people are now at risk from famine due to the Yemeni civil war:

The famine is being driven by economic factors caused by conflict, rather than a lack of food, experts say. The depreciation of the Yemeni currency has caused food prices to increase, while the soaring cost of fuel has made transport more expensive.

In addition, importers of basics such as cooking oil, rice, sugar and butter have been prevented from entering the country due to restrictions imposed by Yemen’s central bank based in Aden, territory controlled by its exiled government.

we are backing the Saudi side, which is for the sitting government.

McConnell coming out about cutting social security and medicare doesn't sound like someone who is leading a group that is worried about losing in a month. It sounds like someone who knows they will win and wants to be able to say they have a mandate because he was open about it before the election.

Add in the fact that Trump et al KNOW they are screwed if the Dems control the committees in the House and a real investigation takes place there and I have real concerns about the fairness of this election. Given the downside, I think there's no way they don't try something. They've already shown they are willing to work with Russia and I suspect it was much worse than we know in terms of voting machines and whatnot in WI and MI.

Yes, I'm being paranoid, but I think it's silly at this point not to be. There is no limit to what they are willing to do. Every time we think there is a limit, they crash through it.
