it's crazy to see him up close (I was sitting next to him at the Berks Democratic dinner on Saturday night to support my wife) and he's now losing lots of weight so he has this big bald head, a goatee, and his thin neck where his veins stick out on the side. then here's there in a work shirt and jeans. that part seems scripted considering he went to Harvard (also went to Albright in Reading).

nice guy and good opinions on lots of topics, though. after this he wants to run against Toomey again, but this time not being an also-ran.

It seems like they are not even trying to hide it anymore:

Trump Indonesia project latest stop on China’s Belt and Road, or more plainly, China Contributing $500 Million to Trump-Linked Project in Indonesia. That second one is from those liberals at the National Review, the first is from Japan.

update from Costello's backyard:

9 a.m.

NORTH COVENTRY TOWNSHIP — Only 18 of the 1,450 registered voters cast a ballot by 8:30 this morning at the Norco Fire Co. polling place in North Coventry Township.

Several voters who trickled in said they are disappointed that Rep. Ryan Costello is not seeking re-election to Congress.

"I really like Ryan Costello," said Dave Strock, a retired student activities and athletics director for the Owen J. Roberts School District.

Costello is a graduate of Owen J. Roberts.

"I wish him well. I really wish there were more people voting. If you don't vote, the you can't say anything about what is going on."

Did it not occur to them that their businesses would be negatively impacted by those policies? If not, perhaps they shouldn't be in business anyway.

I'm sympathetic to the loss of these business, but yeh, it's hard not to point out that they are just reaping what they sowed. Plus, these people are always complaining about others on welfare because they fail to understand that sometimes things just happen to people and they go into the cycle of getting government assistance. Now they get to see it firsthand. Some of them will get it and change their minds, so let's not give up on them. Have to find a way to convince as many as possible as fast as possible before this goes of the rails. Maybe it's already off the rails.

I mean, normally, the connection between a policy and its economic consequence is not straight forward. Sure, we can believe that gas prices are up because of DJT's foreign policy, or that markets are skittish because of the prospect of a trade war, but in the case of these fisher people, their economic distress is a direct consequence of a specific Trump policy. One he in fact campaigned on.

And rank idiocy of the idea that Trump is in favor of business, given his history of stiffing people just like those fisherfolk, well, I am not that far off from experiencing a bit of schadenfreude.

My kid pulled up vocabulary.com to proof the word grifter, and this was attached:

If there's one type of person you don't want to trust, it's a grifter: someone who cheats others out of money. Grifters are also known as chiselers, defrauders, gougers, scammers, swindlers, and flim-flam men. Selling a bridge and starting a Ponzi scheme are things a grifter might do. The difference between a grifter and a thief is a grifter tricks you out of money through lies, while the thief takes it by force. The end result is the same.

OMG:
The way Phillip Hartline sees it, the primaries are a lot like NBC's reality TV show "The Apprentice."

"Voters are employers," said Hartline, minority election inspector for Reading's 14th Ward Precinct 4 at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church. "This is when we get to be Donald Trump and fire someone."

he's going to dump so much money on the race that you'll probably know the favorite color of his 2nd grade teacher

it's the sad state of our politics that someone can buy a seat

I don't see how Fitzpatrick easily wins, soren. it's a tossup seat and momentum is D. Fitzpatrick will be doing nothing but playing defense.

Man you need to be tantalized that Michael Avenatti has some kind of source(s). A few days ago he called out the Qatar business man getting a meeting through Cohen with the transition team, today that is certified as fact.

NK shutdown talks with SK. It seems to be based on SK/USA drills. NK warns of a summit failure if their words are not heeded. Time for NK to see if they can get Donald to try a back flip for the treat like a good little boy. They clearly want to see what they can pull off with his reputation on the line (#MasterNegotiator)
