Nope...Republican governor will appoint someone to the seat until the 2018 elections.
Who then would serve until 2022.

So some of the independents and crossover votes. 12.5% is not nearly enough. What would the percentage of republican identifying women be, and would they need to ask their families permission to change their vote? Maybe that sounds harsh, but spending a little time with my sister-in-law and her mid-west family gave me some rather warped perspective, and honestly it was less her family unit and more her extended family.

McCain is not dead, and he hasn't resigned to my knowledge.

I think everyone knows this, but just wanted to state it to be safe.

45 percent

Percentage of Trump voters who believed that Donald Trump Jr. met with a Russian lawyer during the election, which is very low given that Donald Trump Jr. personally tweeted out the emails detailing the planning of the meeting, discussed attending the meeting at length in an interview with Sean Hannity, and also that the president discussed the meeting which definitely happened, in print yesterday.

TO BE FAIR, posing the fact as a question inserts some doubt into the idea that DJTJR met with the lawyer so it's probably not a good polling question. Or, people are being stupid.

Some more numbers:

- The poll found that 72 percent of Trump voters consider the Russia story to be "fake news," with just 14 percent disagreeing.

- Seventy-seven percent of Trump voters said they would support the president staying in office, even if investigations find Trump did indeed collude with Russia to earn his spot in the Oval Office.

so does this mean the person appointed would serve until 2022, or the person elected in 2018 would serve until 2022?

If the latter, is this pretty much still a safe R seat??

McCain was re-elected in 2016. The replacement serves until the next state-wide election, which is 2018, and the winner of this special elections serves the remainder of McCain's term (2022).

Yeah so they'd likely have a 2018 primary for the special (and I guess Flake could get primaried) and they'd have two separate senate races, one probably Flake v. Dem and also the special one.

Of course we're a long way from that but it would be quite interesting.

Doesn't matter. The Russian thing and our republican run fair election commission have shown us that we can't trust our democratic process. It's best to just not have elections anymore.

Everyone doesn't know this, because he's not going to have to resign. Most sick senators just die in office. Honestly can't think of the last senator who was too sick to carry out his duties and resigned. Byrd/Thurmond/Kennedy all just hung on till they kicked it.

McCain might resign if he goes downhill to get another GOP vote in the Senate, but he'll probably die in office.

Yeah, Kennedy was basically in this exact situation and hung around for 15 months.

Mueller expanding investigation to include Trump business transactions - something Trump said in his rambling interview with the NYT would be outside Mueller's scope. I cannot wait for his response.

Trump saying that Muller should stay out, was just like slapping steak on the chain link fence separating Trump from junkyard dog Muller. Just another stupid move.

I really hope that didn't factor at all into Mueller's decision. In fact, the decision was probably made weeks ago.
