Seems like the Trump budget fall out on Federal workers could be retirement sliced by up to 49%, and the offered health insurance could cost over 20% more, couple that with the freeze on hiring, and nothing like a COLA raise for years and you have to wonder why anyone would work for the Government. Strange fact, in a different time graduates of the Ivy League schools had a proud tradition of working for the government for a few years after graduation, which was part altruism and part networking.

The promise of federal employment, to me, had always been to take less upfront for a fairly safe retirement, but this changes the question of: "Would you consider taking a position" to "Why would you ever consider taking a position."

The budget analysis is brought to me by a friend who is a Fed, at least for a few more weeks depending on what it is worth to retire now.

I took a look at a site I never pay attention to, Federal News Radio, and it has a different ugly set of problems for Federal Retirees <story>

he's even going after rural folks who voted for him

The White House budget on Monday proposed $46.54 billion in cuts to federal government funding for the agriculture sector over the next 10 years.

President Donald Trump's biggest cut would come in the form of a $38 billion bite out of farm supports, including new limits on federal subsidies for crop insurance premiums and caps for commodity payments.

The overall proposed budget cuts would eliminate the Rural Economic Development program, which provides zero-interest loans to rural utilities and support to rural businesses. It would also reduce government coverage of costs for federal inspectors at meat plants starting in fiscal 2019 by implementing $600 million in annual user fees for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Safety Inspection Service.

Pro-Trump Dem mayor lost his primary:
Monessen Mayor Louis Mavrakis' outspoken support for Trump turned him into a media sensation. The 79-year-old former union organizer helped decode Trump's appeal in the Rust Belt on Sunday political talk shows and for major newspapers, where he was quoted saying things like: "If ISIS was to come to Monessen, they'd keep on going. They'd say someone already bombed the goddamn place."

Trump himself made a high-profile visit to Monessen, a town of just 7,500, on Mavrakis' invitation. Trump stood in front of a wall of recycled trash to slam free-trade policies and promised to bring back good-paying coal mining and steel-making jobs.

On Tuesday, he narrowly defeated Mavrakis in the Democratic primary. And with no Republican on the ballot in November, Shorraw is all but guaranteed to be the youngest mayor in the town's history.

The Westmoreland Democratic Party broke its longstanding precedent of not endorsing in primaries in order to back Shorraw after Mavrakis brought Trump to town.

"Mavrakis was already lost to us," said Lorraine Petrosky, the party chairwoman.

out with the old, in with the new!

a more local piece

Mavrakis has been accused of sexually assaulting city employees, btw. this is probably as much about that as anything.

Can someone please remind Christie that his political career is over and nobody cares what he thinks?

He should be hitting up Fox for a gig.

In Senate hearing Coats refusing to confirm nor deny the Trump request to push back on the FBI investigation

Brennan said he briefed to the "Gang of 8" (McConnell and Rubio included) in August that Russia was intervening to help Trump

Gowdy pushes Brennan that no evidence of collusion between Russia and Trump campaign exists

Brennan- "I don’t know whether or not such collusion – that’s your term – such collusion existed. I don’t know..." but in further questioning notes that there is confirmed contact between Russia and Trump campaign members

Gowdy demands to know which Trump campaign members had contacts, Brennan replies that he already gave that info to the committee and he has already seen it, lol
