Maybe it's because The Offspring nerfed their cred by releasing a series of absurd novelty tracks around the turn of the century. But even Ixnay on the Hombre and Americana are pretty loaded with great album cuts despite the band losing their interest in being taken seriously. At least their 40s didn't consist of dousing themselves in eyeliner and making Broadway musicals.

Was coming here to say this. Pretty fly for a white guy, why don't you get a job, original prankster, etc. are pretty weak and not representative of what they started out as or who they really were.
Smash is incredible, right from the opening drums of nitro it just never comes back down. Love that album.
Another band from that era, while not having an album nearly as good as Smash but went down the same path is Sugar Ray. They started out as a some kind of rap-core beastie boys wanna bes and then after fly they totally changed the style

Sometimes movies get pre-released where all you can do is buy it for a few weeks, then it becomes available for rental (if you're looking to rent a new release that is).
One night I drunkenly spent like $16 to buy Now You See Me, not realizing I wasn't renting it, and to this day I am shamed by that purchase.
