it would appear that if he is an advisor he can get away with anything; the rule is there but there appears to be no mechanism for enforcement

Also, looking into it more, it's not clear if the Office of the White House is actually covered by the statute. So, Trump couldn't appoint Kushner Attorney General, but naming him as a senior adviser may not invoke the statute.

Target 2018:

Senator Dean Heller, a Nevada Republican up for re-election in 2018, declined to say whether he believes the GOP plan will cover as many people as Obamacare.

"I would anticipate nobody’s going to lose their health care for the next two or three years until the replacement is put in place. I think that’s pretty fair," he said.

And after two or three years?

"That’s a lot of prospective thinking," Heller said. "You can ask me in two or three years."

Wikileaks knows where its bread is buttered...it's putting up links to the FBI's public reveal of the Clinton email investigation. Not sure what has to do with 'leaks', but oh well.

Kushner is going to be giving advice one way or another. Better to have him with a title and a gov't email address and whatever potential legal oversight that entails than being an informal adviser talking to Donald all the time.

Very fair point, and it's another distraction. There will be challenges to his appointment which will suck up some air. There was a challenge to Hillary's appointment to lead the Health Care Reform Task Force back in the 90s that I think was heard in the DC Circuit (it was mentioned in the NPR link I posted earlier).

Hillary was first lady and had govt experience at the time, though, no?

the kushner stuff seems pretty awful. don't know how principled conservatives are OK with such massive nepotism. seems unprecedented, really

i guess the trump admin strategy is to do so much bad/illegal/shady stuff that the news is just a constant barrage and everyone becomes numb to it within a few weeks/months. rich white men truly can do whatever the fuck they want with no repercussions
