While I have no problem with Colin Kaepernick and his imitators kneeling, I don't think they're accomplishing anything in doing so. My reasoning for this opinion is that no one is talking about why he's why he'd doing it. They're simply talking about Kaepernick and patriotism and such, not about what he's protesting. It's basically vanity as this point, not even political theater.

it seems to me that it's deflection. those who reject his cause reject his 'protest' and vice-versa. Like pacino, I'm amused by how this action gets spun as disrespecting to soldiers.

A lot of people have been inspired or understand his protest, just not Trent dilfer-types.

I agree that what he is doing is getting lost a bit in the phony patriotism shown by folks who are offended. A lot of my veteran friends are amongst them of course. My belief is they are forgetting what we swore to do. Support and defend the constitution, including the right to protest against unjust practices in America.

Kaepernick has the right to express his feelings and his message did get through:

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/28/sport ... .html?_r=0

The same negative reaction to his action is the same as the one that many had regarding the 1968 protest by the sprinters on the medal stand. Now there is a statue honoring them.

Personally, I stand at attention and salute during the playing of the national anthem, as described in title 36 of the US Code.

But silently kneeling during the playing of the anthem is a legitimate form of political expression.

I wonder how it would have been received if he did raise his fist in a black power salute.

Well. What he's doing is not being received well. Can't imagine the Black Power Salute would go over too well either. At least not this year.

Oh, I don't mean they, and I , shouldn't be allowed to. It's just not an inalienable right.

But maybe it would have made the content of his protest a bit clearer?

Sitting during the Anthem gets a huge amount of attention. He made it clear why he did so when the attention was on him. I don't see anything unclear regarding his protest. A lot of folks don't like it. But it's clear why he is doing it.

I get all that. But I think there's a lot more attention on Kaepernick than on the issue he's supposedly trying to bring to get people to focus on.

Good point. I think that's normal for these kind of things. Eventually, a lot of folks get it.

I don't think anyone doesn't understand why he's doing it. It's just people who disagree divert the focus to the alleged disrespect of his form of protest. They don't want to talk about the other thing so they change the subject. BENGHAZI!
