I don't care if it is A.J. Burnett. If they wanted to win, they wouldn't do that. They probably figure they'd rather win it in NY, and for that I hate them, the $#@!.
He's caught him all playoffs, did they not want those games either?

If they really wanted to win they'd pitch Burnett on short rest instead of Gaudin....oh wait

I guess. If it's me, I tell Burnett to suck it the $#@! up and pitch to Posada, an offensive force. They've now got a bottom of the order that is significantly worse than many NL teams (Gardner/Molina/pitcher). If they NEEDED this game, you can bet your ass Burnett would have to pitch to Posada and like it.

Maybe it's because of the Phillies speed.

I don't agree with the logic from the Yankees' perspective either, but he is in there because they think he gets the best out of Burnett. Instead of Posada who's good for 3 crossups a game, can't block and goes out and yells at him if he tries to shake him off

Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

I get what you're saying, but what I remember from '93 is thinking that the Phillies had a shot if they could get it back to Toronto, since they should have won Game Four. (BTW, I think I wasn't as undone by last night because nothing, NOTHING, could ever be as bad as blowing a five-run lead in the eighth inning of a WS game.) And the Jays had seemed more the superior team through the first four games of that WS than the Yankees have in this one.

I don't know. I remember how awful, awful, awful it was to watch a 14-9 lead go to 14-10, 14-11, 14-12, 14-13, 14-14, and then turn into a loss. It was like watching a loved one die of cancer in front of you. Inexorable, unstoppable.

Last night wasn't that, but it was bitterly disappointing, nonetheless. Lidge was in complete control, you could feel the whole thing going our way, everything finally, finally, finally coming up Phillies after all those stupid bleeders from the Yankees... and then, in just 10 pitches, the wheels come completely off. God, I could cry thinking about it. Might well have been my old man's one chance to see the WS too. He was 0-5 this year. God.

I'm still thinking Happy Pete is going to be that guy.

I'm laughing. At the bar the other night my friend said he had a pumpkin head, so we started calling him Jete O'Lantern.
