If Jeter hits one down the line, McCarver is going to be insufferable. Oh, wait...

swishnicholson wrote:That was another interesting instance of the uncaught third strike. The runner was able to try for first, but it is a force out so the fact that the runner on third crossed the plate before the putout was made is irrelevant.

(I hope I'm right, Bucky)

Correct. I meant to jump in that other threat but too much hoopla elsewhere. One thing that will take you a long way in these type situations is understanding the exact definition of a "force out"- a runner forced to advance as a result of the batter becoming a runner.

Then know that no run can score on a play if the third out of an inning is the result of a force out, and you're golden.

Where this always gets people (and way too many amateur umpires) confused is on appeal plays where a runner is returning to a base after a caught fly- just look at the defintion and you know that's it's not a force out.

Actually, not sure if you guys know...but Jeter did that on purpose. By striking out there, he actually cured cancer.

Little late with this, but why does McCarver not understand that they didn't mean to throw the pitch "right down the pipe?" Posada clearly wanted it up and Hughes just missed his spot.

I love how the pitchers hate Posada. They shake off his calls constantly. Dude blows.

He only remembers catching Carlton, and Lefty never made mistakes?

You would think Mathis could bunt better. He had as many sacs as doubles (8).
