Aside from winning it all in general, I think 2008 spoiled us in that we were never really in any danger. The worst position we were in was tied 1-1 going home for 3 games in the World Series. I think 1980 shows that generally, it's not that easy.

Eh, down 5-3 in the top of the 8th of Game Four with L.A., where losing would have made it a 2-2 series, was a little scary.

Well I'll root my fat ass off for him, but the problem is he's no longer Pedro $#@! Martinez. Now he's Pedro with a Lot of Experience and Savvy, But Older and Often-Injured with a Lot Fewer Bullets in the Gun Martinez.

I was at this game today... meh.

Cole seemed to me to pitch fine, great ball/strike ratio, gave up two hard hit balls and they cost him (the HR and the double).

They made a valiant effort, came up a little short. I'm alright with it.

The necessary Philly.com comments....

I didn't know Cole could produce children.

Cole pitched all year like he was in labor

Jordan scored 50 in the finals with the Flu. No excuses, play like a Champion

jodya2
it's a good thing cole will be on the first plane out of town after his contract is up because his son would have grow up like i did to not see a champion in this town for 23 years

Not to mention relatively fresh bullets that have something to prove.

worst crowd of the year. worse than any dollar dog night. didn't make a peep until victorino was on second. no support for the pitcher/ defense. they're better off playing in colorado.
Fine. You wanna act like you're two? I'll act like I'm one.

That's the truth. What the hell was wrong with everybody? My buddy and I were trying to get our section up, screaming at people to wave the towels, etc., but people just weren't into it. We were commenting about that whole game.

they went down 1-0 in the first, had stupid defensive miscues, and couldn't get anyone past first. also the rockies pitchers took 15 minute breaks between pitches.

i dont know there just wasn't much to cheer about. it definitely was a lesser amped crowd but i can't blame them entirely.

Exactly on both points. When I will look back at the WFC run of aught eight, I'll tell the great-grandkids the eight inning of game 4 of the LCS was the only really tense moment of the entire playoffs for me. Unlike 1980, when it was sphincter-clenching through pretty much every inning of both series'.

This isn't the end of the world. We'll be fine.
