Bryce Harper got Mick Abel's number soon after the #Phillies selected him with the 15th overall pick. Harper made a FaceTime call and Abel answered, despite not recognizing the number. "I see his face pop up. I'm like, oh, that's Bryce Harper. What the heck?"

Absolutely. Was telling my kid that this morning when we were talking about the Abel pick and how Bryce FaceTimed him. I'm pretty sure I remember Harper rattling off the names of guys like Bohm and Howard last season in spring training soon after he signed, so he's been all in from the moment he decided to come here.

He came out and basically said that trading Bohm and Howard for Bryant was too much.

I'm not normally a fan of taking high school pitchers, unless it's a guy like Hamels who looks like he can move up fast. Seems like Abel might be a guy like that, though I don't see a pitch from him that's on the level of Hamels' changeup.

So I wasn't a fan of the Abel pick initially, but the more I see about him the more I like. That clip has him all over the place with his pitches, so I think he'll need to work on his command. He also didn't miss many bats against better competition than he saw in Oregon. It's such a crapshoot with young pitchers, but I think I like the pick.

Rd 3 = Casey Martin, SS, Arkansas

#30 on MLB

Scouts rated Martin as the best high school prospect in Arkansas in 2017, though his bat was considered too raw for pro ball and he went undrafted. He made an immediate impact with the Razorbacks, hitting 13 homers as a freshman to help them reach the College World Series, then slammed 15 as a sophomore to bring them back to Omaha. He's one of the best athletes in the 2020 college crop and is Arkansas' toolsiest prospect since Andrew Benintendi went seventh overall in the 2015 Draft, but a poor start to the shortened 2020 season could drop him out of the first round. An explosive athlete, Martin offers an exciting combination of power and speed. He records run times that grade from 70-80 on the 20-80 scouting scale, though he's still learning how to translate that quickness into stolen bases. He has the potential to be a 25-25 player but gets overly homer-conscious and his right-handed swing gets too uphill, leading to strikeouts. If Martin can slow the game down a bit offensively and defensively, he can be a star. His quickness and solid arm strength give him the tools to play a number of positions and perhaps stay at shortstop if he becomes more consistent. He played a fine third base as a freshman and definitely would fit in center field, though he should be able to stay on the dirt.

Amazing! He was BA's best player available (#38). When is the last time that ever happened after round 1?

Casey Martin looked like a first round pick after his freshman year at Arkansas. He has slid because of hit tool questions, but at this point this is a pretty massive get for the Phillies. Big tools with some risk to go with it.

On a scale of 1 to Chris Brown, how pissed is he?

lol, beat me to it
(Brandy) only hinted at Halladay's personal issues during her Hall of Fame speech last July, when she said, "Roy would want everyone to know that people are not perfect. We're all imperfect and flawed in one way or another. We all struggle."

Man hope were drafting some good major league guys. Seems like both will be too 5 in our system immediately.

Martin is probably top 10 right away. Which is amazing for a 3rd round pick but also shows the lack of depth in our system.
