the last time i got a little too involved with a mascot was with "little shot" and his sixers debut. the sixers pulled the plug during the 2nd quarter. never seen or heard from again. overwhelming guilt, feel personally responsible to this day. didn't think i could get the entire crowd of 8,000 at the spectrum to follow me in a little shot sucks chant.

i was like 13 at the time. those were some leadership skills you don't develop by taking some course.

probably going to just sit this one out myself.

Is this related to that lawsuit or whatever they're involved in for the rights to use the character?

So the real deal is this:

The Phillies' rights to the Phanatic will expire on June 15, but the club is hoping the latest round of creative changes will be enough to legally continue its use of the Phanatic.

My mother once made garden flags. Every season they would roll out a new set of designs. These were hand made items, and on the expensive side. After they premiered their new design a month of so would go by then knock offs made in China would show up. Something like the color of the flower would change slightly, and may some subtle shape changes to the art work which would result in something that would pass as 'not the same' thus no copyright infringement. Try as she might, there was no legal remedy, in fact even though you could not tell one from the other at a distance, the close examination show enough change that this was permissible. That seems to be the gambit here as well.

That seems to be the goal, but I'm hoping it was just done to put pressure on the artist to settle. Neither side gains from changing the phanatic enough to get by copyrights
