That was a BS play (border line slew foot) by a crumb trying to make name for himself as a tough guy. He’d been playing pretty chippy through most of the game. Needs to be laid out. Both teams were trying to play competitive hockey within a game used to gain conditioning except for Lauzon. Even Marchand and Konecny were playing under reasonable control.

Fletcher has hit on just about every move. He's been fantastic. There are definitely some similarities to Wade/Gillick and Hextall/Fletcher. Keep the core together and compliment them. Hart is definitely Hamels in this scenario.

It’s not a one man show. Fletcher has done really well but Hextall gave him a solid base of talent on which to build. Hextall took the sword in the chest and stuck to his formula for team construction-go from the blue line out. Goalies, defensemen and up the middle. There was pressure to add scoring but Hextall went for defense with Provorov and Sanheim instead of flashy forwards. He added Hart then Sandstrom and other top notch goal tending prospects.

While that may be true, bottomline is the team wouldn’t be nearly as good if Hextall were still here. Hart would probably be in the AHL ffs

Nice to have AV instead of Hak too. I think there was a pretty frank interview with Lappy in the paper a few weeks back that basically said the guys immediately respected AV and didn't want to let him down. He said the system wasn't even that different than Hakstol's, just was a bit of a messaging issue/lack of respect for him.

EDIT: Here's the quote, not sure if this was shared here previously but it really stuck with me when I read it:

“Let’s be honest here: It’s the same system that we used with Dave Hakstol,” Laperriere said. “That’s what cracks me up. People think we just thew a magical system out there. I think it’s more the approach of AV. AV was more like, ‘If you don’t play my way, you’re not playing.’

“I hate to go back, but you can’t ask a Dave Hakstol to coach like Alain Vigneault. They don’t have the same pedigree. AV has a Jack Adams Award, two Stanley Cup Finals. The guys maybe listen a little bit more. For me, that was the biggest difference.”

We don’t know if Hart would be in the A. Probably not with his play. I agree that Hexy needed to leave but that does not negate the fact that he stocked the cabinet with prospects that are going to make this club a contender for a long time. I like most of what Fletcher has done so far, especially hiring Vigneault and the rest of the coaching staff. Hexy has a great scouting staff. We’ll have to see if the new team can keep up with that.

Hextall did some good things and deserves credit for that. But how easy would it have been for Fletcher to come in here and make a “splash” trade to make headlines? He hasn’t done any of that. And now the franchise is set up for sustained success for years.

The way they are playing, it probably doesn't matter much but I'd rather get the 1-3 seed and let someone else deal with Pittsburgh if they get by Montreal... not cause we can't beat them and that is great fun but they are always gonna be risky cause of Crosby and Malkin... I'll take my chances with the Isles or Canes or Jackets or someone in Round One
