They are going to heavily pursue him the first chance he becomes available. Whether it's trade or free agency. I was told this weeks ago. And adding Harper just increased their chances being able to sell him on having the best outfield duo in MLB history. Not to mention the local angle and such and joining by then what is hopefully a perennial contender.

i didn't see it in here but on marks and reese the producer read a tweet that the phils were still significantly apart from harper in $ as recently as this morning. that goes in line with the biged theory that they just said eff it, stepped it up, blew them away, and went from there.

people have been speculating that for days because a deal didn't happen in vegas

It's all guesses, but if SF offered 12 for 310 then I don't think the Phillies made a big increase because it was reported they were the highest bidder the whole time.

Jim Salisbury said it was important to Harper to play in a ball park where he'd put up huge offensive numbers and he knew that he wouldn't do that in SF.

I'm glad we stuck it to the Giants, I hate them as much as the Mets. Their World Series teams were total frauds relying on Joe Generic players like Cody Ross and Marco Scutaro to carry them offensively, and I hate their stupid ball park and triples ally.

I often think about, I believe, a Peter Gammons quote from an article around 2009 or 10. Might have been even earlier. Might have even been someone's signature here.

He was talking about teams that can't afford to spend, and he said something like "when you're the Yankees, Red Sox or Phillies, you don't worry about that."

It felt so good that the Phillies were thought of as a big market team.

And that's why IT HAS SUCKED these past 7 years, falling from that perch.

But this changes everything. The Phils are back and it feels very fucking good.
