Agree here. Don't think there are a ton of courses in the next couple of years that scream that, but he has the game to be up there consistently.

That is comically awful. I mean...

2000 PGA Championship - WIN

lol

2016 PGA 4th
2017 Masters 11th
2017 US Open WIN
2017 Open Championship T6th
2017 PGA 13th
2018 Masters DNP--injured
2018 US Open WIN
2018 Open Championship 6th
2018 PGA WIN
2019 Masters T2nd
2019 PGA WIN

Looks pretty comparable to me. He's finished 13th or better in the last 10 majors he's played and won 4. If he does this for another year it's just as good as peak Tiger. 4 more top 10s with 2 wins? Probably has to win a Masters or an Open Championship to show his game is versatile (gave it a shot at Augusta this year...).

It would be an interesting conversation. He needs to win all four majors, too.

7 for 11 is a lot better than 4 for 11. I learned that from baseball.

Koepka is playing with the best generation of golf ever, a lot to do with Woods.

Woods was incredible but he was Richard Petty badically to golf in that era. Not even Phil knew how to win.

Kind of a weird take considering that Tiger won the masters, finished 2nd in the PGA, and was leading on the back 9 of the British and he's a shell of his former self.

Prime Tiger was insane. Between 1999 and his 2008 injury, he won 58 of 173 tournament and 13 of 38 majors. And his adjusted scoring average over that time frame relative to the other top golfers today suggests that prime tiger would be every bit as dominant today as he was then.

Tiger, as noted above, was also racking up wins in every goddamn event he entered in his prime. Koepka is 'only' winning majors which isn't a knock at him so much as a testament to Tiger who kept his game up in every event he played in. He has streaks of both 7 straight wins and 6 straight wins, lol. That alone is more wins than Jordan Spieth.

Tiger Woods was, is and will always be the most dominant golfer of all time. The whole competition thing is a weak take because he just destroyed the field on a consistent basis and as JU mentioned, he won an a rate that will never be repeated. He has certainly created a new generation because of his success, but he's missed 20 cuts in his career. Brooks Koepka has missed 19.

Jack Nicklaus won 18 majors and his score in relation to par was a cumulative -95. Tiger has won 15 at a cumulative score under par of -193!

To be honest, the media has a shitty job understanding the post-Tiger golfing world. He created an unrealistic expectation of greatness that will never be repeated. The equipment has changed the game and these guys hit it insanely far and straight that it takes a lot of the strategy out of the game. Brooks, Rory or DJ would never have the balls to hit one driver all week and still find a way to win. Not their fault, just how the game is played today.

Tiger's greatness in majors comes from his front running, which, imo, is the toughest way to win a golf tournament. The pressure on the leader is crazy, and has destroyed many a quality golfer. Look what happens to guys like DJ and Kuchar in majors when they find themselves in contention late. They immediately shit the bed. Tiger's mental toughness is off the charts. Koepka has some of that mental toughness i think. I also think he intimidates his playing partners a bit like Tiger did. But he's light years away in career accomplishments.

That culmulative -193 in major wins is just insane.

Agree, but there is a difference--Tiger was the very first pro with a decent short game or better to have the kind of swing speed almost all modern pros have. He indeed changed the game, and from 1999 to about 2006 players were playing catch up in the technical aspects of the game. He was dominant because he was playing with consistently 10-15 mph higher swing speed than almost all of his competitors, and he had more experience playing with that swing speed.

Koepka has no such technical advantage, so he's not going to dominate the same way. The 300th best player in the world has roughly the same swing speed the best players in the world have now, and they are all pretty good controlling it. What Koepka is doing in majors is just as insane given his competition as Tiger's run. Koepka has no technical edge on the field, and he's still finishing consistently in the top 15. I think that is a comparable accomplishment, but I understand why some other posters don't.

I think it is safe to say athletes in all sports are better than they were 20 years ago. Guys are bigger, stronger, have better equipment, better data to use to improve their games. What Tiger did was as impressive as it gets but I do agree that the current field is much stronger now than Tiger was dealing with back then. Makes it all the more impressive winning the Masters at this age. And Tiger is one of the big reasons why the Tour top to bottom is stronger than it has ever been.

A lot of these younger guys have great chances of being hall of famers.

My sister won an all expense paid trip to Pebble Beach for the US Open last night. The same week she will already be on an all expense paid trip to Scotland. What a life.
