The future looks excellent but right now it's a learning experience for the young guys. They're learning. I really like the play of Sanheim, Konecny, Provorov and Patrick for guys in their first PO series. It may not show on the scoring sheet today but these guys are going to be big time players.

Add Lindblom to that list. Him only getting nine minutes today is a disgrace.

I don't know if Hakstol is a good coach or not
Even if you get run over by a clown car and pissed on by a busload of school children, it's still your responsibility to interpret the meaning of the event and choose a response

I'm leaning towards he is not. He seems to put way too much stock in veteran shit players. I understand that our roster has had some black holes in the bottom six and d-men, but he still has control over how much ice time players get.

the prolonged benching of hagg is bad. he was having a solid season. moving raffl to the top line was an awful decision and will continue to be for as long as he stays there.

Hextall gives him these vets I'm assuming he is telling him to play them.

I believe that Hextall brought in Hakstol to build a young team and turn it into a SC contender for a while. It's what he did at ND; take raw kids and prep them to become competent NHLers. To that end he's not going to put young players in positions where they will mess up and set back their careers. So he'll put the vets out there in crunch time. Next year and beyond should be a different situation. Right now, I don't want to see a Sanheim get blown by for a goal by, say, Hornquist on an outside move. Let Manning get schooled instead. So I give credit to Hakstol for nurturing along the under 25 year olds.
Right now I'm more let down by the play of the vets. These guys should be able to compete better than they did today and last Wednesday. There really isn't much that Hakstol can do with that. If a vet doesn't get it that during the POs, it's time to elevate their game, there isn't much that a coach or GM can do for or with them.
RP, I'm with you about Hagg. There's no reason to have Manning out there instead of him. He has to be injured and the Flyers are keeping quiet about it. Actually the rest of the D has played reasonably well. Ghost and Provorov were good as a top pair in their first PO series. We even saw AMac being physical today. Gudas has been under control and Sanheim has been a revelation. He is going to be a star. Manning is terrible and drags down whomever he is paired with.

if getting beat on an outside move for a goal sets back someone's career they're fucked anyway.

If it happens occasionally, that's one thing but Manning gets passed by to the outside with regularity. Sure, he's a vet and tries to play a physical game but his true skills are weak. Hagg would be able to shove that opponent to the boards. RH has deficiencies but he's a better player than Manning.

Yeah that’s my point. Play him.

Yea, I understand the logic of spreading out the talent since the Pens top two lines are so dominant (not that Hakstol made this move at the regular season with a match up against the Pens in mind), but Raffl just isn't good enough. TK needs to be back on the top line tomorrow.

Coots collided with Gudas in prax and needed assistance getting to the locker room and hasn't returned. Awesome.

They’ll have lehtera center the top line and then we can complain about giroux.

They moved Patrick to the top line after the injury. At least the game isn't tonight.

Lindblom is out and Weal is in. Hakstol won't give Lindblom a chance to play so he just takes him out of the lineup instead. This guy is a god damn moron and I'm tired of even attempting to defend him.

He hasn't had a great series (Lindblom).
