neuvirth is signed for 2 years. if you mean the guy who will play the 45 games he's hurt for they could go with stolarz or trade konecny for halak or niemi.

Overpaid 30 year old 3rd line filler.

This is a brutal, brutal trade. He just traded one of his best assets for total trash. Somehow this team just got softer and worse offensively.

I hate Hextall......legitimately hate him. If anyone in the media cared at all about hockey they'd be running him out of town.

what's he building towards? they luck out and get patrick to add to the young core and then he deals part of that core for lehtera. his infatuation with bottom 6 guys shows no signs of slowing down. and like you said if they are going to trade him use him in a deal to get someone meaningful.

I think it is as simple as Hextall has no earthly idea what he is doing.

You are acting like it was a straight up trade. They picked up two first rounders.

Trust the process.

Hextall is a pretty solid drafter and got two/three more cracks at a top round guy. Schenn was an elite PP presence, but that's about it. I'm sad to see him go, but it's not like we traded away Lindros in his prime.

if they are kicking the can down the road two or three more years than i hope they are planning to sell simmonds at his highest value and seeing if giroux will waive his nmc.

I don't know if this was a good trade or not but I'm not arguing with changing things cause this team was terrible last season. Hopefully new blood in Patrick, Lindblom, Morin, etc joining Konecny and Provorov will help out

You're acting like our cupboard is bare. We have a lot of young talent that will be seeing pro time in the next two seasons. The biggest reason we regressed was shit goaltending. Hopefully Neuvirth rebounds or Stolarz lives up to his small hype.

I have no idea about this trade but you can't question this. Chris Pryor has been killing the 1st round for the Flyers well before Hexy.

Schenn is kinda stinky but would rather not take back stinky salary. Blues pick is only top 10 protected next year in a supposedly great draft. Regardless of all of that, if Frost is a typical Flyer 1st round pick we win this trade.

the blues can push it to the 2019 if they want.

I'm guessing the opinion of Schenn around the league wasn't so good. Why would you expect to get anything of value for him?

i love draft picks too. they got 27 in a draft that is considered one of the weakest in years and picked a guy who the analysts think is three years from the league. they'll prob get the other pick in 2019. they were 21st in the league in scoring and gave up their third leading scorer for another third liner to go along with read/raffl/weise/laughton/coots.

career points on pp (%)

simmonds - 41.3
giroux - 41.2
schenn - 37.8
voracek - 36.7

he scores roughly the same amount of points on the pp as everyone else. he was at 34% before the season. not sure why he gets labeled as anymore of a pp only guy than anyone else.

i assume somebody else is headed out too because they needed a winger and could stand to lose a center (thought maybe a coots/galchenyuk trade could work) and they traded a winger for a center. g/patrick/coots/fillipula/lehtera/laughton down the middle as it stands now.

edit - here are some guys with similar contracts and their stats last year

reilly smith (26 yo, 5/25) 15-22-37
taylor hall (25, 3/18) 20-33-53
alex barkov (21, 5/29.5) 21-31-52
johnathan huberdeau (23, 6/35.4) 10-16-26 (31 gp)
travis zajac (31, 4/23) 14-31-45
jaden schwartz (24, 4/21.5) 19-36-55
evander kane (25, 1/5.25) 28-15-43
mike hoffman (27, 3/15.5) 26-35-61

then comes schenn below those guys (25, 3/15.375) 25-30-55

pretty similar stats and pay. a few guys in that tier who are clearly better (seguin) some who are washed up (callahan, dustin brown). i don't see someone whose pay or stats are out of line when compared to similar contracts/ages across the league.

Any of you hardcore Flyers guys want to give me an assessment of last years draft one year out. Seems like Rubetsov was good once he got to Canada but also hurt a bunch. Seemed like Carter Hart was also really good but that maybe Laberge and Allison had disappointing years.
