This is pretty huge. I imagine this will increase the number of trades of FA before they hit FA. No sense holding onto someone when there's no compensation at all.

is this effective next year??? Seems like a big win for big market teams but a huge loss for small market ones

That's what I was thinking.
Maybe the team losing a player gets a pick, but it doesn't come from the signing team? Like a pick between rounds or something?
