the backlash started around here with the "Ryan Howard is a platoon player" talk in mid-September. he must really have it in for the Phillies, because they're actually a pretty new school-inclined team and he gives them no freaking credit for anything.

definitely good call. i noticed it more and more after you mentioned it earlier in the year. he doesn't really seem to know the difference in between the law of averages and what dumb people mean when they say "law of averages". the law of averages actually means more or less that people will play according to their averages. instead, he takes it to mean that everything will violently regress towards the mean and guys who are hot are more likely to be cold the next week than hot.

example: he thought the braves would win the wild card at the all star break, arguing that he thought so before and 100 games isn't enough to determine it. the thing is, they would have needed to play like .650 ball at that point to make it-- he seemed to think they were due to go on a hot streak.

and again: he continues to insist lidge is going to give up a homerun soon because he's below his career HR/FB. lidge will give up about 1 homerun in his next 10 flyballs. he's not "due" to give up one next.

sheehan just writes well, but he's not particularly savvy with numbers which is kind of the point on BP unless you're a scouting guy like steven goldman.

Agree. And great camerawork to get in there. Jenkins might not be a favorite around here but he looks like a real team player first type of guy. He's always the most pumped in the dugout.

I just joined the "MATT STAIRS is GOD" Facebook group and became a fan of Shane Victorino. The Matt Stairs group has a section that is sort of like Cole Hamels Facts...except about Stairs.

I'm so excited I won't be able to sleep. Where is the momentum now?!
