there are four players I'd be happy with and we pick third. I can't lose.

I will be drinking heavily and be miserable tomorrow night FYI.

ok. i guess that angle makes some sense if cavs ultimate goal is to try to get sixers to pay up more than their current offer in a trade up for #1 (cavs posturing that they're okay taking ORL offer and Exum if Sixers don't sweeten current offer for #1)

i was just trying to talk this through because it doesn't affect sixers' intentions if they stay put at 3

What if they take Vonleh?

I'm scared to death that we will end up with Vonleh at #3. That would probably be my worst case scenario.

Cavs have no need for exum, so now their plans are screwed. Sixers offer to swap embiid for exum and 12. Cavs trying to make it seem like they have legit interest in exum.

That's kinda my read as well. Continuing my "they're playing chicken" theory, if the Sixers are bluffing they're going to pick Embiid if Cleveland trades down, then Cleveland's now trying to say "That's fine, we'll just pick Exum!" They know Exum isn't flying to Cleveland tonight, and that's why Exum's camp wanted assurance that they aren't being used as a pawn. But it's just another piece to make the Sixers blink.

How does it make the Sixers blink in a hypothetical where Sixers would take Exum over Embiid at 3 anyway

Also how could the information that Cavs will take Exum at 4 sway their decision to take Embiid at 3 (now assuming here that they prefer Embiid). They have to assume that Exum would be gone anyway, even if Sixers try to pick up another pick in back end of top 10

I think the Cavs want Embiid. They don't want to pick him at 1, because quite frankly, they don't have to, they can trade back and get something, anything from somebody and still get Embiid.

They know Milwaukee isn't going to pick him.

Philly's telling them "Do the trade with us, or we're going to pick Embiid." Whether they actually would pick Embiid or not, who knows, but Hinkie's telling Cleveland that's what he'll do. I don't think Cleveland wants Exum (or anybody in the next tier), and Hinkie doesn't think so either.

Every offer that's been leaked (and everything is leaked for a reason) has seemed designed to get Philly to improve their offer. Everytime one of these trades has been leaked, Philly's come back and leaked something else. Right after that Afflalo rumor was leaked, all of a sudden, here comes Dei Lynam to inform us that Philly does in fact have Embiid's medicals. So the response to that is Cleveland saying "That's fine, we don't need Embiid, we'll just pick Dante Exum!"

Continuing this thought experiment, if Hinkie does indeed want #1 and covet Wigs, I think Cavs would be trying to get him to both take Jack and give up 10 (in addition to 3). I think Hink would be fine with Jack but refusing to budge on 10

That's my guess as well. #10 is the sticking point, and it's all a matter of who blinks first.

Si.com has us going Exum and Randle at #9. We gave up #32 and a 2015 2nd rounder to jump a place for Randle, not sure why when Stauskas was still on the board.

If the team would take Noel knowing that he has an ACL and would miss a year, why would they have a problem taking Embiid with a broken foot? Randle had a similar injury two years ago and no one holds that against him. The back injury is in the past. All of Embiid's workouts showed that. In fact he looked good with a broken bone in his foot. If he's there at three, he's the guy to take and in two seasons let the league figure out how to play against two athletic big men like that. It won't be easy.
I can see Hinkie moving MCW. His shooting is too poor. Drafting Smart to take his place makes sense. (Trade for seven or eight) Grab Randle at ten.
Embiid at 5; Noel at 4; Randle at 3; Thad at 2; Smart at the point- your '15-16 Sixers starters. The bench is the #2s from this draft and next season's lottery pick and some UFAs. Championship parade in '16-17.

Randle doesn't seem to be a hinkie type. I'd be surprised.

He can board. With his body and temperament, he could be a future Barkley or Gus Johnson type. Caliperi gave him a good base to build his career. He can shoot a bit but when the boards were needed for KY, he dug in there and got them.

25%, maybe. I just can't buy that Hinkie's been so transparent this whole time.
