I have this "friend" who got two jury duty notices about 7-8 years ago and just threw them away. He hasn't gotten one since then either.

2 idiots were drag racing on Washington Ave last night, and tried to drive straight onto our base doing 60 mph. They ran straight into the raised barrier gates, destroyed the car, and the gate. Worked as intended.
Piss off.

Small sample size, but it seems like half the people I know in Philly elude notices. But once you get and show up for one, you're going yearly.

Oh, duh, Clinton Street. I used to live there, and still walk down that way a lot. No wonder it looks familiar.

Thanks!

Had the same experience as Housh for about 25 years, and then they finally caught up with me. Now get them regularly every 2-3 years. Gotta keep movin'.

I responded and showed up and pretty much got them on a yearly basis. Accidentally blew one off and didn't receive another for about 5 years. "Accidentally" blew off one six months ago and got served again 3 months ago threatening if I blew it off again they would find me. Luckily I didn't get called, but I don't think I'll blow off another.

When I was in the Army, my home state was Pa. I was never stationed there so I avoided jury duty but my family received several notices. Being in the service meant I was automatically exempt. When I first got to Washington, I had to go up to Seattle for two days after getting a Jury Duty notification. I was rejected by the lawyer. No jury duty for me! Haven't received one since.

I got my first jury duty notice when I was 17 in NJ and still in high school. I lobbied my parents to go and do it which would have required me to miss school but I saw it as a learning experience, but that was a no go even though I had enough credits to graduate after my junior year. Then I got called like every other year in my early 20's but never had to sit. The only time I even got in was a civil case where a guy got into a car accident and as a result could no longer get it up to fuck his wife, so she divorced him and he was suing.
I showed up wearing an Eagles jersey before a mnf game, and didn't get on the jury.

It's actually pretty solid. Paid day off, the organizer slash MC lady is pretty funny, lots of walkable options to spend your $9 on lunch, some crazy cases etc

You guys get $9 for lunch? Fuckin' A, I'm moving across the river.

Only place worthwhile for lunch I found during Camden County jury duty was Black-eyed Susan's food truck and I was on my own dime.

Whole experience was very frustrating but informative and interesting. Glad I did it. Once.

Got put on a two week civil trial back in 1989. I was unemployed at the time, so it was actually not a bad deal. You get paid a lot more after 3 days of service. Met some interesting people. After 8 days of testimony, they settled, so we never got to render a verdict.

I was on a jury case for a month and a half. I wasnt working nor in school at the time. Easy target.

Spent three days on a drug trial. The prosecution and cops did a pretty terrible job of pinning it on the kid they arrested, so we had to acquit. We figured the kid was involved somehow, but not the mastermind they were trying to convict.

Saw the kid three days later at the Granite Run Mall. Steered clear.

I'm sure I've talked about this before, but did a month on grand jury in DC back in 2009. We heard mostly domestic violence/sexual abuse cases. Holy shit people are terrible.

And the old adage about the ham sandwich is probably true: We indicted everyone we were asked to indict.
