We have one here too. One of the faculty old-timers has a stuffed groundhog (not real) she calls Swisskers. He did not see his shadow this morning.

Today's prognostication:

As the wildflowers are once again appearing in Leysin, Swisskers (the official LAS groundhog) has predicted an early spring. Leysin’s prognosticating rodent emerged from its burrow at sunrise (7:54 a.m.) under an overcast sky with a temperature of 42° F (5.6° C). Swisskers did not see its shadow in the flat light of dawn—except for when it was sitting under a streetlight—which doesn’t count. Looks like one of Leysin’s shortest “ski seasons” ever. Remember: Don’t shoot the messenger! Swisskers calls it as it is, not as we wish it to be.

Stay tuned for more Groundhog Day reports later today from Punxsutawny Phil (Pennsylvania), General Beauregard Lee (Atlanta), Wiarton Willy (Ontario) and Schubenacadie Sam (Nova Scotia).
