11.6.2012 GDT President Obama v. Mitt Romney

Arm chair analysis of why Romney fell short would be that he lacked credibility in the end. His bending to the base, in my opinion, was his undoing. Without the pandering he likely did not get the nomination, which is sad in itself. The real Romney, although famously rich, is more moderate then radical. Let's face it, he authored the core of Obamacare which has fulfilled it's mission in MA, but he had to hate it for the base. TThat sounds like someone who either will do anything to get elected, or has not real faith in his accomplishments. Further, the mixed message about the government not creating jobs versus he would do something to crate jobs via the white house has to be a head scratcher, if you consider the first statement. I realize the message is holding the line on the growth of government and direct government jobs, but that is an obtuse message. It also neglects the ravages put on the employment in the government sector, which has reduced under Obama.

So my view is that contrary to some thinking that Romney was not far enough to the right, I think his entertaining the far right agenda actually hurt him. I think if he was a moderate candidate that allowed belief in his policies and previous actions, then it might have been closer. I also think that his VP candidate scared people. So more center in a believable way would have made it much tighter in my opinion.

Mitt's momentum should carry him at least as far as the Massachusetts border on the way back home to - well, wherever car elevators are free to transport dressage horses
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

On a local note, I am surprised that Virginia went blue again, but I am thankful that Allen was not returned to office.

Those Arkansas pro-slavery/neo-confederate/execute disobedient children Republicans all lost. And we seem to love high sales taxes and roads. But we don't want medical pot. Maybe next time.

this other gem from krautenhammer was lost in the mix last night (paraphrasing):

"the obama campaign did a good job of painting romney as a corporate raider and friend to the rich".

On the ticker I saw the name Dutch Ruppersberger III won in Maryland. Sounds like a racehorse or boat name or something else silly. Apparently he has been a serving MD congressman since 2003 after he hit a term limit as as county executive (paging Nucky Thompson). Great name.

the response to the re-election by some of my conservative christian friends on facebook is absolutely disgusting. they call people moochers, lazy, sluts, etc. and wonder why their platform isnt more appealing.

Christie, with some sort of international diplomacy credentials (perhaps he has these via the ports) could be a very viable candidate for either party. His CV is that he is passionate and when there is work to do, he gets to work. People over party to swipe Brown's good, but unoriginal, tag line. The question is what happens with the Tea Party Horror show over the next 2/4 years.

Feel like we might actually see some good, honest Republicans emerge as viable national candidates soon?

I think most Republicans wish that was the case. As of last night, they are still losing Senate seats.

One of the guys on msnbc last night made a good point about how these low turnout R primaries are resulting in TP candidates that can't win in generals.

You'd think that would be the natural outcome of all of this, but many of them don't believe in evolution so who knows
you sure do seem to have a lot of time on your hands to be on this forum? Do you have a job? Are you a shut-in?
