(AP) – For the second day in a row, Senate Republicans have blocked action on legislation to impose greater federal control on the nation's financial industry

So basically the coyote was staring at him, he charged it which is funny in itself, and then killed it.

A 25 pound animal is staring at you and if the article is correct showed no signs of aggression and you fucking shoot it.

Hoo ray for the killing of defenseless creatures! Hopefully he gets his comeuppance some day.

It's vanishingly rare that comments to a story on a partisan political site offer anything but bile, but I wonder if the second commenter here might not be on to something. S/he suggests that Graham's intransigence and goalposts-moving on climate and immigration is all about protecting McCain.

I actually feel bad for Graham. Here's a guy who's serious about legislating, but if he looks too accommodating on any important issue, it's political suicide whenever he's next up.

A year after switching political parties, Sen. Arlen Specter reflects and admits second-guessing himself at times

I love the 'not welcome in the GOP for being independent' -> 'welcomed easily by the Dems' -> 'voting with the Dems 99% of the time, even on issues he'd long voted the other way' story line. The GOP would have liked you if you voted with us 99% of the time, you unprincipled douchebag.

Joe Biden heartily approves of this video tape.

And the first rule of politics now has to be the microphone is always on.

But what struck me about the video was how the woman seemed to be eager to get away, but Brown was sort of chasing her in a very creepy way asking about her children.

The lady obviously didn't graduate from Oxford, so maybe she didn't articulate her concerns about immigration among the other issues she was worried about in the most artful way, but she didn't say anything hateful. Are we to the point where you're not allowed to voice concern that too many immigrants might be coming into the country without being called bigoted/racist/prejudiced?

England is the size of North Carolina and has 50% more people in it than fucking California. I'm not sure how many extra folks I'd be wanting to squeeze onto the island myself if I lived there. It's certainly something you should be able to raise as an issue without being slandered.

Kevin Parker busts a gasket

Even works in the "NO YOU'RE OUT OF ORDER" bit when the committee chair tells him he's out of order for yelling in the middle of the 'white supremicist's' allotted time.

White Democrats need to do more utterly bat shit crazy stuff so I can make fun of them more often so pacino doesn't call me a bigot.

Also Crist will announce he's going through with the indy bid tomorrow.

How he handles the roll out is going to be huge. National Dems think Meek can win, and I agree with them. Rubio's a slight favorite still maybe, but I think Meek has a real chance. I don't know what Crist's path to victory is. But whether he says he'll caucus with the Dems or Republicans or ignores that question will have a big bearing on the race as a whole. And what issues he chooses to emphasize to differentiate himself too.

Or not.

There were reports that she had been in discussions with the Sun about selling her story, but Nick Robinson, the BBC's political editor, was reportedtonight as saying said the paper decided not to run the interview as it wasn't sufficiently interesting.

It's bad, but it's just Brown doing what brown does when he's on the campaign trail. He is epically bad with people not from scotland. Having said that, it's done a great job of knocking the Institute of Fiscal Studies report on all three parties spending plans off the top slot. Bet the conservatives are loving that, especially on the morning of the final tv debate when they're all meant to be talking about the economy.

Incidentally, if you want my opinion, we're going to see a narrow conservative majority. Day of Ryan Howard's deal, an ICM poll came out which had about 83% of people who said they were voting conservative saying they'd definitely be voting on the day. Compared to somewhere about 69% of the libdem voters. Then this morning, we've got another one saying the libdems will get more seats from labour than from the conservatives. I think money is going to win through here. conservatives and labour are (unless I'm very much mistaken) better positioned to mobilise their voters. The libdems are picking up voters this year, but I don't think they have the cash to get them all out in force in sufficient numbers.

Set against that, the libdems have had a very good record in marginal seats over the last two elections.

Still, I'm quite fucked off about this. Buh-bye any shot at Proportional Representation and electoral reform. an electorate who only wanted to hear about tax reduction, happy to see big business+conservatives squabble with labour over National Insurance Contribution raises (they're arguing over a scant 3% of the national deficit(April 7th prog in that link)) and convinced themselves that all the savings necessary can be made through fucking efficiency savings. Buying the same tory/labour bull shit as before (CUT!/SPEND!), and despite recognising that the MPs are far removed from day to day life, happy to maintain a system that keeps most MPs cosy in their seats and maintains a 2 party system. BUT HEY! IT'S ALL ALRIGHT. BECAUSE THE CONSERVATIVES ARE GOING TO LET US GET RID OF MP'S IF WE DON'T LIKE THEM DURING A PARLIAMENT.

I'm tempted to rail about various forms of livestock, but the electorate could yet prove me wrong. Maybe it'll be immaterial - whoever gets in is not going to be loved for the massive cuts which will fall in public spending over the next 5-10 years to reduce the deficit, even more so if they ringfence one area (e.g. the NHS/health and 'frontline services' (police/teachers/social workers - take your pick) from major cuts (both the conservatives and labour are promising this). Maybe next time round they'll recognise that PR (preferably Single Transferable Vote) goes some way to alleviating the problems of party whips and party lines.

I think you could more accurately call it an ignorant comment (the reference to "All these eastern European what are coming in, where are they flocking from?").

As for the impact on immigration as a whole, and the UKs resources in terms of population density, I think your argument might sound a deal more authoritative if couched in a wider context than North Carolina. Including countries with extremely high population density might be a start. India comes to mind, as well as germany which is not far behind the UK in density. Then asking about wealth per capita, stuff like that. Then checking, maybe, figures like the impact on public services and housing through immigration in the UK and other countries, and proportionate spend by those countries governments.

Sorry to sound snotty, but it's a lazy response of the type that the British National Party (BNP) and most of the major political parties trot out over here, albeit on a sliding scale (from stop all immigrants to maybe we should just have a points system for immigration, but keep a careful eye on all those shifty bastards that come into the country). The line is somehow that in geographic terms alone, we must be fucked. instead of asking how many other people are in the same situation as ourselves, and how they cope comparitively, and indeed, what are the best measurements of how we're coping.

I apologise for the grumpiness. You probably just wanted to get back at Pacino. As you can tell, I've more than had it up to here with cheap one-liner arguments of late. Just one week to go.

Thank fuck.
