Hutchison is a crappy Republican, but Perry is a colossal dope. I hope she wins so he doesn't get any ideas about running for president. Although I know people on her campaign and don't like them. A retard fight for the Texas governor's office. Pretty much how any Dem would stereotype it.

Perry apparently has raised the prospect of Texas seceding from the U.S.

He has my full support in this, of course. Somehow the country will stumble on without leadership from the likes of Dubya, DeLay and Gramm. But as one of the commenters in the link above points out, it's important we get our nukes back first.

I wish there was more Champions League soccer tomorrow afternoon to distract me from the inevitable prospect of werthless defending secession from the US as a valid option against the tyranny of the federal government.

Also, I like Phil Gramm. But then you knew that, and we've been around that fight before. Hell, I like DeLay too, but that doesn't surprise anyone. Partisan gain over real world results, that screams something I'd love. Anyway, god damn you Ronnie Earle, partisan asshole prosecutor. Hey, let's indict DeLay on flimsy evidence in freaking Travis County where everyone hates him, then let it all go away once he's out of office. Great idea!

Why not just sell Texas to Mexico, then at least we'll get some monies.

Is that what Obama's doing in Mexico today, negotiating a price for Texas?

Sestak has $3.3 mil in the bank. You know, he could probably beat Specter, let alone Toomey.

Also the first five (5) posts on the front page of RedState are about these stupid tea parties.

The usage of red and blue effectively demonstrates that he loves America. As does his cogent argument.

When will war be declared on Texas, and when do we get to kill as many Texans as possible in the name of freedom? Sign me up, because I couldn't bear the thought of only 49 states. We'd have to make new flags.

Just curious, how much Adam Smith have you read? What about Hume? Locke? Mill? Smith of course was concerned with economics, but not to the exclusion of all else. Smith of course was also not a libertarian. What he did point out, and the point of Wealth of Nations, was that mercantilism did not make a nation wealthy. But he was also quite concerned with the moral development of human beings, and there really isn't much about markets in that part of Smith's corpus.

I read the major work of all of them, but about 7 years ago. I read some Mill recently.

Here's an argumentsimilar to what was already posted. I understand where you're coming from, even if I'm not buying what's being sold. I don't feel strongly about whether Adam Smith is claimed by the right or left, but I don't think that the modern "liberal" acts very liberal.

Earle indicted a lot of Democrats too. But even if he were a "partisan asshat prosecutor" (I'll stick with the filter), even you have to acknowledge the poetic justice of DeLay getting taken out by someone motivated by blind partisan hatred. Were I writing it as fiction, it would have been Janeane Garofalo killing him in the bath Charlotte Corday style, but the indictment works too.

This is not a bow, but how Obama shakes hands.

I can't watch the video now but what's the big deal about the bowing/shaking?

I'm going to guess the conservatives are really pissed because he's SHOWING WEAKNESS TO THE INFERIOR ARABS, but I really don't know what the issue is. Can someone explain?

On a visceral level, I didn't like it either, whether or not it was actually a bow. (As the next Werthless cultural/media offering I find funny will be the first, I didn't actually watch the clip. I wouldn't say my time is valuable, but there's a floor to how wantonly I'll waste it...)

But I found it no more offensive than Bush holding hands with and kissing the guy (or his predecessor--not sure which). The real point, as Colbert joked last week, is that we've twisted ourselves in knots policy-wise to stay on the good side of these jerks.

The conservatives are "really pissed" because anger is what they have right now. (This isn't a criticism; a lot of us lived there from 2001-2005 or so.) Substance has almost nothing to do with it. All the teabagging yesterday--the clothed portion, at least--was done by people whose taxes are going down this year. Much as it might be nice to view their discontentment as thoughtful concern over an unsustainable financial future, this was just a culturally grounded tantrum that their side seems to be losing right now.

I know jh noted this a couple days back, but here's another sign Tom Coburn might retire:

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) told Tulsa World that he is still definitely undecided about whether he will seek another term in 2010.

Said Coburn: "I'm not playing games. I really haven't decided."

However, his fundraising suggest he's leaning towards retirement. Politico reports Coburn "raised only $17,000 in the first three months of the year and banked just $57,000 in his campaign account, totals that will raise speculation that he won't run for re-election."

He swims in the deep end of crazy on a lot of issues, but as far-right Republicans go, I like Coburn. He's absolutely sincere as a spending watchdog whoever's in the White House, and the likelihood is that he'd be replaced by someone who's much more of a party flunky. Though maybe the past Democratic governor (whom Coburn beat in '04) or the current one could make a decent race of it.
