Clean up the kitchen really good. It doesn't take long and it really impresses wives and folks like that. Use some stuff that smells like clean -- you know what I mean by that? -- it really does the trick I've found.

in other words, don't poop in the sink. got it!

Yeah well that's part of it. What I mean is use those wipey things that have disinfectant in them -- the clorox stuff or whatever. Wipe down some sutff with that and it smells really clean and fresh and like you worked really hard making it so. That, and not pooping in the sink should be just the ticket.

Frustration.

Girl sitting in front of me at Clearwater Beach was a legit 8.0-9 (Florida adjusted--she'd be pushing the top of the Philly scale). I'm sitting there reading, but I notice she keeps turning around and smiling, so I shoot a smile back each time. So I'm thinking, alright, I'm going to move in once there is a resolution to why she has 2 beach chairs.

Finally, the boyfriend shows up. And he's big.

But not muscular big.

He's slob big. Like, the token guy that goes to the beach and doesn't take his shirt off, big.

Good for him. He's either got a kick ass personality or tons of $$$, because he's so far out of his league that I let loose an audible: "Oh come on!" when he showed up and kissed her.

At least the book was good.

That will happen, you seeing a guy with a girl way out of his league, all time time, but you will never see the reverse.

We tend to blame girls for this, calling them shallow or gold diggers, but you could argue it shows us to be shallower

It's rare, but I see it once in awhile. But it's not like the guy is great looking. It's like she's a 2 and he's a 5.

i know exactly ONE couple where the guy is way out of the girl's league.

i'm not sure what it means, but my guess would be that men are shallower.

my last girlfriend was definitely out of my league. it was awesome because we kept it all on the DL for the beginning of the relationship, and i'd hear dudes talk about how hot she was, smile and nod in agreement, knowing how good i had it.

So for anyone here that is a runner, is it worth going to one of the specialty stores and getting the stride analysis and all that jazz to get a proper shoe or is it just a ploy to get me to drop $150 on a pair of running shoes?

I'm not much of a runner, 3-5 miles, 2-3 times a week when it's nice out, so I don't know if I'm the type that needs to go to a dedicated store, but if it really makes that big of a difference, I've got no problem dropping an extra $60 or so to make those runs go a little more smoothly.

Yes, probably. Good running shoes are in many ways more important for the novice runner, since a new runner (or an experienced one that is building mileage back up) is less conditioned and also quite likely carrying a little extra weight, and thus more susceptible to injury.

One thing to keep in mind is that the most important thing in choosing the right shoe is still fit. At a good running store they should be able to to come up with three or so styles that fit your stride pattern and body type well. After that, just take the one that feels best on your foot- no slipping in the heel, fitting snugly around your forefoot, the arch hitting in the right place. Don't worry about any supposed technical specs-90% of it's BS anyway. Don't get hung up on size , either. You'll generally want to go a half-size up anyway since your feet tend to swell during running, and many brands are inconsistent in their sizing. Asics, which I always wear, tend to run very small. I generally take a 9 in a dress shoe but a 10.5 in their running shoes. If you can't find one that feels right, go ahead and spend some more time looking around, or wait for them to special order the one that felt right but they only had in 1/2 size too small.

So yeah, I would go to a specialty store for a first pair of shoes-certainly as opposed to just picking something off the rack. Any of the Running Company Stores are good, and there are others. After you know what you want you can look for better deals if you like. I tend to try to stick with the running stores just because they do things I like to have around like group runs and race info distribution and gainful employment for runners (including me at one time), but it's not really a moral decision and these things are less important for the casual runner.
