BAHAHA

He met her in the bar of the swank hotel and invited her to his room. Once there, the woman fixed the drinks and told him to get undressed.

And that, the delegate to the Republican National Convention told police, was the last thing he remembered.

When he awoke, the woman was gone, as was more than $120,000 in money, jewelry and other belongings.
...
The victim was identified as Gabriel Nathan Schwartz, 29, of Denver, a single attorney and a fixture in Colorado Republican politics. He was one of the state's delegates to the convention this month in St. Paul.

Reached by phone at his law office Monday, Schwartz said that because the case still was under investigation, "I think at this point, I don't want to make a comment on it."

During the convention, Schwarz wasn't shy about talking to the media. In an Associated Press article about Sen. John McCain's acceptance speech, Schwartz was quoted as saying that as far as oratorical skills go, McCain "has more experience in his little pinkie" than Democratic nominee Barack Obama.

In an interview filmed the afternoon of Sept. 3 and posted on the Web site LinkTV.org, Schwartz was candid about how he envisioned change under a McCain presidency.

"Less taxes and more war," he said, smiling. He said the U.S. should "bomb the hell" out of Iran because the country threatens Israel.

Asked by the interviewer how America would pay for a military confrontation with Iran, he said the U.S. should take the country's resources.

"We should plant a flag. Take the oil, take the money," he said. "We deserve reimbursement."

A few hours after the interview, an unknown woman helped herself to Schwartz's resources.
...
In his interview on LinkTV, Schwartz seemed opinionated and passionate.

He said an attack on Iran was needed to protect Israel, and he offered how it could be accomplished through "strategical airstrikes."

"Hopefully, just bomb the hell out of them from the sky. No troops," he said.

Schwartz was asked if he had a message to the protesters who filled the streets of downtown St. Paul.

"Get a job," he replied.

A book I read a bit back about the supply of oil and ecological concerns cited a figure of 1/5 of the world's workforce being employed in the insurance sector. It also occurred to me today that at some point, concerns about unemployment figures factor into these calculations. Not just unemployment rates, but costs in terms of welfare, in the face of a labour market which may not necessarily be remploying people as well as it did.

When Lehmann bros went in london, apparently 5000 people lost their jobs. The top management and the senior folk I'm not worried about - I'm sure they have savings and sufficient investments to cope. but it strikes me that lower down the food chain, you've got a lot of people that won't be reemployed within the financial sector because the companies worry about spending on new workforce at an uncertain time when liquidity is at a premium.

Few who understand the specific hows and whys of what's going on right now. It's a bit of a mess.

I heard someone on the radio saying that we (in the US) somewhere along the line got really good at intentionally constructing overly complex financial systems and transactions, which made me feel all warm and fuzzy

WARREN, Ohio (CNN) – Carly Fiorina, the former Hewlett-Packard CEO turned John McCain Victory chair, said Tuesday that Sarah Palin isn’t qualified to run her old company.

Appearing on a KTRS Radio show in St. Louis, Fiorina was asked by the host, “Do you think she has the experience to run a major company like Hewlett Packard?”

“No, I don’t,” Fiorina answered. “But that’s not what she’s running for. Running a corporation is a different set of things."

FTN wrote:The problem, from my point of view, is that the government didn't have a plan from Day 1. Paulsen has now basically said that there will be no more bailouts. But how is that fair to AIG, Merrill and Lehman Brothers after the Fed dumped all of that money on Freddie, Fannie and Bear Sterns? The problem is, they didn't have a plan of "no bailouts" before they started to bail companies out, now they are changing the policy in the middle of the game. AIG is much more important to this company's economy than Bear Sterns was, and is more important than Freddie and Fannie.

While I think it really sucks having to use taxpayer money to bail out these companies, you can't leave AIG to die. Its the largest insurance company in the world. Every mutual fund out there worth anything has holdings in AIG. All of the hedge funds have holdings in AIG. A lot of regular people have AIG life insurance.

The even bigger problem is that people just aren't confident investing money anymore. I forgot where I saw it, but I saw something like 60% of people asked in this one survey said they have cash, but they are too scared to invest it. The sub prime crisis is killing the market. Its killed investor confidence, and investor confidence is one of the cornerstones of our country's economy. I think the academics are sitting back and saying this is just a cycle. But its not a cycle. There are major issues here, and if they aren't solved quickly, we're looking at the Great Depression, v2.0. Thats not really fear mongering, its just a pessimistic view of a really awful situation.

Whats really troubling to me is that no one is able to discuss this kind of stuff with any kind of clarity. I wasn't an Econ or Finance major in college, I've spent time reading about this stuff to understand it. And when you understand it, you realize how scary it is. Why are the two dillholes running for President not talking about it? Why are they focusing their energy on these moronic culture issues that affect a small segment of the population? Why are they talking about lipstick on a pig when some of the oldest, most prestigious companies in US history are filing for bankruptcy and falling apart? Is it because they don't understand it? If they don't understand it, maybe neither of them are fit to be President. Is it because they can't articulate complex points in simple terms? Is that a big part of being President?

The whole thing really pisses me off.

Al Gore:internets::McCain:Crackberries

(CNN) – McCain senior domestic policy adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin said Tuesday the BlackBerry mobile e-mail device was a “miracle that John McCain helped create.”

...

He added, though, that McCain — who has struggled to stress his economic credentials this cycle — did have experience dealing with the economy, pointing to his time on the Senate Commerce Committee. Pressed to provide an example of what McCain had accomplished on that committee, Holtz-Eakin said the senator did not have jurisdiction over financial markets — then held up his Blackberry, telling reporters: “He did this.”

Apparently she's added to this by saying that Biden, Obama and even McCain couldn't serve as a CEO either.

Someone remind me how Fiorina herself did in that gig?

This kind of stuff usually isn't done well enough to be that funny, but this is pretty good....

My Gal -- by George Saunders

Explaining how she felt when John McCain offered her the Vice-Presidential spot, my Vice-Presidential candidate, Governor Sarah Palin, said something very profound: “I answered him ‘Yes’ because I have the confidence in that readiness and knowing that you can’t blink, you have to be wired in a way of being so committed to the mission, the mission that we’re on, reform of this country and victory in the war, you can’t blink. So I didn’t blink then even when asked to run as his running mate.”

Isn’t that so true? I know that many times, in my life, while living it, someone would come up and, because of I had good readiness, in terms of how I was wired, when they asked that—whatever they asked—I would just not blink, because, knowing that, if I did blink, or even wink, that is weakness, therefore you can’t, you just don’t. You could, but no—you aren’t.

---------------

Now, let us discuss the Élites. There are two kinds of folks: Élites and Regulars. Why people love Sarah Palin is, she is a Regular. That is also why they love me. She did not go to some Élite Ivy League college, which I also did not. Her and me, actually, did not go to the very same Ivy League school. Although she is younger than me, so therefore she didn’t go there slightly earlier than I didn’t go there. But, had I been younger, we possibly could have not graduated in the exact same class. That would have been fun. Sarah Palin is hot. Hot for a politician. Or someone you just see in a store. But, happily, I did not go to college at all, having not finished high school, due to I killed a man. But had I gone to college, trust me, it would not have been some Ivy League Élite-breeding factory but, rather, a community college in danger of losing its accreditation, built right on a fault zone, riddled with asbestos, and also, the crack-addicted professors are all dyslexic.
Agnostic dyslexic insomniacs lay awake all night wondering if there is a Dog.

I guess she was eager to get involved in politics to clarify that she is comprehensively incompetent
