In the first 6-7 innings I don't think it's true.

But 8th inning on in a close game, Howard isn't getting a pitch to hit with Bourn or the pitcher behind him

If you say so...i think the greater point is that the bourn 'defensive' substitution late is a questionable move and has been all year.
