I think that has to already be playing into it. He is a constant PMS case but some of the stuff he criticizes this org. about are just slanted into a bitter prick sentence.

what is the point of asking that question when Law's opinions on the top prospects are well known?

He talks smack about every team so I don't think it matters. He's kinda like that bitchy girl (or guy) you dated for a month. When they were nice it felt way better than the nice from a pleasant person. But then you realized they hated everything except board games.

Rd 8 = Grant Dyer, RHP, UCLA
bio

#196 on MLB, #198 on BA

Dyer has served in a variety of roles in his three years at UCLA, serving as a midweek starter and weekend reliever as a freshman, then as a setup guy as a sophomore. He moved into the weekend rotation as a junior, though it seems like his future might be coming out of a bullpen. As a starter, Dyer's stuff has been somewhat generic compared to when he's thrown in shorter stints, both at UCLA and during a successful turn in the Cape Cod League last summer. He still commands his fastball well, but it's largely sat at around 90-mph in the rotation, as opposed to up to 94 mph in the pen. His breaking ball had more power and tighter spin when he was setting up, though he still uses it effectively. He's generally around the strike zone with all of his offerings. Whoever drafts Dyer could send him out as a starter and see if they can help him find more sharpness in his stuff in that role. Knowing that the stuff will play up, and he could move faster, as a reliever, will be nice to have in their back pocket.

Last night during the MLB Network's broadcast, someone (Reynolds?) asked Dan O'Dowd how much he paid attention to scouting reports by BA, BP, ESPN, etc. O'Dowd quickly responded that the answer was none. The Network immediately cut to a commercial. These scouting sites have no inside information unless an organization is being flat out stupid and feeds it to them. They've paid a lot of money to get their own scouting reports.

I thought that was a completely arrogant response. O'Dowd was an awful GM (he gave the Denny Neagle and Mike Hampton contracts). I've heard teams in all sports say they use the scouting sites rankings for a litmus test of their own. Their not building the board from Baseball America but it's helpful for them to look at.

I think as a club you need to be aware of media scouting reports, just as an added variable but beyond that they have far too much info and scouts of their own to put any weight in those media mocks and scouting reports. What someone like Law says is irrelevant to them, they have more info on every prospect than any media draft guru, which makes Laws statement itself arrogant in the extreme. He doesn't have the info on Moniak that the Phillies or any club in the top 10 does, nor is he better qualified to scout Moniak than the guys those clubs have doing the scouting.

So if Almaraz says Moniak has the potential to hit 70's in some tools, then who is Keith Law to refute that? So many players exceed the potential ratings that the media give them that frankly I'd fire any scouting director who takes their reports seriously.

Besides, I'm like 90% sure the Nationals board is really a BA ranking list. ;)

Seriously. His responses lately to not just questions, but comments too are pure troll shit.

He sounds like a bitter asswipe that burnt every bridge who is left to draw in readers by being an edgy cocksucker.

Geez, they look like babies -- so what is the deal - they will go to UCLA or not? How does that work? Do we sign them if they go to college?
