It's pretty common in small towns in the South to not send wedding invitations, but to announce it like this. Of course, there's not going to be an open bar in the basement of the Baptist church, and if there's a meal, it's a covered dish thing or pot luck. If you figure the average Southerner will have four or five weddings, you really don't want to spend much on any one of them.

If they're reasonably well off, the honeymoon will be in Branson or The Smoke Mountains. If they're rich, Disneyworld. If they're just getting by, honeymoon might be in some place like Canton TX. Big flea market there.
