Midway into the third period, Scott Hartnell tackled Letang from behind. Letang took exception and tried to fight Hartnell before being separated.
“He had the play and the puck on his stick to try to score a goal, and it fell off the stick, and the whistle and everything ensued after that,” Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said. “A guy picking on a guy who had a stroke.”
Letang suffered a stroke in January. He returned Wednesday against Detroit. Saturday was only his second game back.
Berube lashed out at Bylsma.
“Then he shouldn’t be out there playing,” Berube said, meaning that if Letang is still hurt, then he shouldn’t be playing. “Bottom line. It’s a stupid comment.”
After the game, Penguins officials said Bylsma's comments were made only in jest.
